Description
Moulins d'Ascq beers have all come from organic farming since the brewery was created in 1999. 100% of the raw materials used in the design of the recipes are certified organic and produced with respect for the environment.

It takes an average of five weeks to make our beers. They are neither pasteurized nor filtered in order to best preserve their aromas. Their fine bubbles are natural thanks to a refermentation in the bottle. These are beers brewed with respect for tradition, high fermentation and Belgian inspiration.

A little unbalanced for style but fairly drinkable. Pours hazy blonde with OK head and lacing. A little too sweet. Some coriander and decent florals. Soft carbonation. Bottle from store in Georgia.

Malt, honey, and lemon zest nose, very bready. Hazy amber, thick head, good lacing. Bready honey, little hop notes, but some subtle grassiness. Slightly buttery, but it works. Full body, alcohol a little strong. Not one of the better Belgian beers, but still quite enjoyable. I have no problem calling it a Biere de Garde.

On tap @ Pulp Kitchen, Lille. Golden blonde color. White head, with pretty good lacing. Aroma’s: Grain, malt, light sweetness, some fruit. Retronasal there’s a lot of sweet & sour fruit. Flavor is light sweet, fruit. Light to medium bodied. Finish is somewhat dry with just a hint of bitterness. It’s nice that it’s organic, but it’s a rather average French blonde (I woudn’t call it bière de garde).

Typical bière de garde, the 8% ABV version of which is (or was) also brewed at the ’Proef’brouwerij in Flanders. Off-white, loose head, deep orange blonde colour, hazy with nice sparkling. Strong apricot smell, honey too, peach, orange juice, green apple, vanilla, freshly cut grass. Soft fruity taste, light citrus touch, again apricot-like, sweetish, mellow maltiness, smooth with a somewhat oily mouthfeel, yeasty, mild hop bitterishness in the finish, insufficient to balance out the initial sweetness.
