Pitch black, good frothy tan head, half-way lasting, good lacing. Aroma roasted malt, cocoa, light dark fruit, dark bread. Taste medium to light heavy sweet and medium bitter, roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, fruity and light spicy notes. Roasty sweetbitter aftertaste, alcohol notes, full-bodied, velvet mouthfeel, creamy texture, soft carbonation. Very good, smooth and tasty, perhaps a wee bit too sweet.

330ml at home. Completely black with a tiny amount of mocha foam. Complex aroma, loads of coffee, some chocolate, a hint of mint and maybe some raisins. Liquorice? Taste is coffee, chocolate, some dark berries, treacle and caramel. Coffee dominates but other flavours come through nicely. A hint of smoke. Beer is nicely balanced, very sweet but also bitter. Extremely drinkable. Has a nice warming finish. Some oakiness in the finish too! Enjoy this one a lot.

Tap at Erzbierschof Zurich. Aroma is dominated by coffee and cassis, dark dried fruit, plums. Changes completely on the tongue: Still sweet and powerful, yet more chocolate and not fruitiness left. Heavy and strong, but balanced and smooth, matching bitterness. Nice!

33cl bottle from SIP veini- ja õllepood, Tallinn. Pours deep amber close to copper coloured with a rather modest off-white head. Malty and caramelly aroma with spicy notes and hints of dried fruits, vanilla and alcohol. Sweet, but still fairly balanced. Quite pleasant and rather dessert.

330ml bottle, from trade with jinroh! Many thanks. Pours clear deep amber with a sensible off-white head. Aroma is light vanilla and mild caramel dubbel esters. Taste is quite smooth and light, yet still rather delicious. Not as rich and sweet as, say, La Trappe Dubbel and arguably all the better for it. Vanilla influence seems to be quite breezy and blends in with the caramel flavours well. An enjoyable easy-drinking dubbel.
