Description
The Brewery of Saint Mars of the Desert was inspired by the earliest “craft breweries” of Europe: that first generation making beers in disused 19th century breweries with a pioneering spirit, unmoving passion and an almost avant-garde creativity. We relocated from America to the city of Sheffield in South Yorkshire to make this dream a reality and haven’t looked back.
As a very small two-and-a-half person brewery, making world class beers and sharing them fresh with the public is about all we have time for. But who needs more than that?

440ml can. Pours a very dark brown, hazy and with lots of sediment in suspension, big frothy beige head. Aroma of toffee, caramel, pine. Taste of toffee, caramel, pine, citrus peel, biscuity malts, little earthy, a very strong bitterness that lingers. Medium bodied. Excellent.

Can from The Beerhive. Hazy dark amber body with a thin beige head. Steady carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of woody malt, fig and glazed cherry. Flavour of toffee, dried red fruit and a hint of smoked malt. Medium body with a smooth texture. A rich, well balanced and nicely boozy beer. In my opinion it’s a little overpriced.

440ml can from St Mars of the Desert in Attercliffe - hazy gold body, big head. Solid resinous pine and spruce hit up front, long sharp hoppy bitterness at the back, picking up lots of fruity notes on the back of the tongue. Excellent stuff.

Can at home, from HOTM online, 25/12/24. Ho Fucken Ho etc. Very deep reddish amber topped with a big ole lasting beige head ... looks the bollocks! Nose is caramel, candied fruit rinds, dusty hops, toasted sugars, fruit cake mix, blood orange. Taste comprises caramel, dried fruit rinds, candied orange peel, sugars, fruit slice, dusty hop bite, pine needle. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, light drying close dashed with earthy come leafy hop bitterness. From the top drawer of this style!
