Beers of the World country 93: Jordan 🇯🇴

"And this beer really delivers. The beer is hazy dark orange in colour with a tiny foam lining. It has a nice hoppy and fruity taste with a nicely balanced bitter finish. This is the 50. new country this year and so far the best one by quite a margin! !هتافات" - beersoftheworldproject.wordpress.com

Bottle from Berkeley Bowl West. Pours bright gold with a transient white head. Aroma is salty/sour or vice versa. Med body. Flavor is salty, a little citrusy sort of sour. Malt is like a Kellerweiss. Different but enjoyable.

Poured up at AZ Strong Beer Fest 2017, listed as German Kristalweizen, where it exhibits a nice clear deep gold body that supports a near white head of foam. The aroma offers up mild pear and kind of apple like esters as well as a pleasing inviting sweet bready to malty sort of sensation and then a faint yeastiness toward the end of the draw. The taste delivers smooth kind of modestly sweet pear to apple esters and then quickly getting into a nice bready to almost cracker sensation that really helps to ground and further integrate the flavor notes. Toward the finish there’s just a touch of yeastiness with an edge of bubble gum that comes in to add another facet. This is a really tasty offering of the style and it has just enough freshness and snap to keep it from ended up on the sweet and heavy side of the spectrum.

Poured up at AZ Strong Beer Fest 2017 where it exhibits a dark mahogany almost chocolate colored body that supports a mocha colored head. The aroma offers up dark roasted malts, some sweet fruity esters of plum and dates as well as a bit of chocolate toward the end of the draw. The taste delivers dark roastiness, a bit of burnt malts and then there’s an undercurrent of sweet dark fruity plum-y kind of date like esters in the background. To midway it gets a tad earthy with malts and a light sense of chocolate. Pretty solid stuff.

At a tasting, many thanks, small creamy head, very cloudy dark brown color, aroma of grounded turkish coffee and cardamom with some greenish notes, spicy cardamom and coffee aroma, light lingering bitterness, light to medium bodied. Original and highly enjoyable.

Bottle shared at a tasting at troubles’ place. Thanks Tom L. for this bottle! Black with a tan head. Great aroma with roast, lots of coffee, slightly "green", dark chocolate, cardamom, cocoa. Sweetish flavor with roast, coffee, dark chocolate, a bit of bitterness. Medium-bodied. Very nice. Surprising.

Bottle shared by Hamirubi, thanks for the country tick! Moussy, snow white, lightly lacing, stable head over a hazy orange blonde beer with inconspicuous yeast bits throughout. Pleasant aroma of peach, orange, bitterroot, apple, white pepper, caramel and indeed something whisky-like (I assume whisky malt was used?). Fruity taste, peach, apricot, pineapple, medium carbo, soft caramelly and lightly bready malt sweet middle, breadiness enhanced by yeast in the end but very agreeable, shifting to a rooty, tonic water-like, ’deep’ and long, surprisingly potent hop bitter aftertaste balancing out the initial sweetness. Not overly complex or anything, but well-balanced and tasty, it seems this brewery has a stout as well and I must admit I was hugely surprised to establish that even Jordan seems to show the first signs of joining the international beer revolution now, never thought a beer like this could be made there...

Feb. ’16. A 0.33 l bottle, thanks Marjan for my first Jordanian rating! It poured a hazy golden body with medium sized head. Decent honey aroma, but a bit metallic already. Flavor was also metallic, especially at first, later it showed pleasant biscuit, vanilla and some lightly toasted malt flavors. Thinner in body with moderate, sweet malty and very lightly herbal bitter finish. The off-note bothers through the whole drinking, however it had shown some qualities. If I visit their place as I plan to quite soon, I’ll be sure to taste it fresh, well, like you have many beer options in Jordan, especially craft.
