Half-pint, shared with Finn. Almost black in the glass, dotted spots on the glass from a tiny off-white head. Roasted malt-forward aromas, lightly spiced. Mixed dark malty flavours of chocolate, earth, and prunes, hints of spices. Roasted malty tail, semi-sweet. Slightly unbalanced but quite alright. (Liverpool, 12.02.2025).

Cask at the Pup & Duckling 9th birthday beer festival, Solihull. Poured an unclear yellow golden colour with a mostly lasting frothy white head. The aroma is yeasty, grainy. The flavour is moderate to light bitter, with a smooth, somewhat light, yeasty, lemon citrus, light hop bitter palate. Medium to light bodied with soft carbonation.

This drink was purchased at the furthest point I ventured away from my hotel in the city centre of the Scottish capital. It was worth the walk via three other venues on the way. Strongish with a sweet-hoppy, towards bubblegum aftertaste

Cask at Hops, Crewe. Pours very dark reddish-brown with a medium sized foamy tan head and good lacing. There’s roasted malts and oats in the aroma. In the mouth it is sweet and creamy with roasted malts, honey and ginger. Later on some hints of liquorice and chocolate come through leading to a slightly bitter finish. This is quite nice.

Tap at the Colmore, Birmingham. Pours black with small beige head. Notes of chocolate, roast, light coffee, slightly medicinal finish. Medium bodied, powdery, fine prickly carbonation, served slightly too cold for a stout. Decent though.

Cask @ Victoria Tap, Manchester. Near black with a light-brown creamy and. Smooth dark malts, nothing quite roasted but a fine porter mainly through texture.

Cask @ Molly House, Manchester. Black with a creamy-smooth light-brown head. Grittier tasting stout through its added spiciness, has some roasted notes, nothing sweet here.
