Keg at the brewery taproom. Pours clear yellow-gold with a small, creamy white head. Some yeast, lemon rind, dried wheat, soft floral/botanical notes. Light bodied with fine to average carbonation. Finishes with further mild floral notes, semi-ripe lemon, wheat bread. Nice beer.

Sweet stout mimicking Lamington cake, an Australian dessert involving coconut, cocoa and – not always but often – a layer of raspberry coulis. Mousy, pale yellowish beige, medium thick, open head, black robe with hazy mahogany edge. Aroma of toffee, indeed raspberry jam, brown bread, liquorish, soap, elderberry syrup, rainwater, old tea bags but very little to no coconut. Restrainedly sweet onset, dried figs and raisins with a very faint umami accent, soft carb, supple and smooth mouthfeel; caramelly, somewhat thinly nutty malt sweetness with a light toasty bitterish edge, raspberry coulis effect only distantly present, cocoa nibs are there but in an earthy kind of way and coconut remains all but absent; ends in a herbal, tea-ish bitterishness mixed with the remaining sweetness of the malts and that raspberry thing. Interesting idea but not very well executed, this lacks opulence, thickness and extravagance to make it work. Comes across as a simple brown porter even more than any kind of stout, with only a dash of raspberry, low cocoa and hardly any coconut at all – learn from Omnipollo, guys, even if not everyone is convinced beers like this can work…
