Description
The first documented existence of a brewery on the location of today's Kneitinger at Arnulfsplatz was recorded more than 400 years ago. After many changes of ownership, in 1861 Johann Kneitinger I came into the possession of the brewery via marriage, together with the already existing Sommerkeller at Galgenberg. The skilled master brewer was the first to develop our strong Bockbier, with great success. After his death, his son Johann Kneitinger II refined the beer recipes even more. He also opened the restaurant at Arnulfsplatz, today known as the "mother house". Then, in the third generation, Johann Kneitinger III continued to manage the traditional company together with his wife Sofie. He died in 1975, and Sofie was his sole heir. While she was still living, she founded the "Hans und Sofie Kneitinger-Stiftung" in 1985. She died in 1991 and since then, the foundation has been the owner and operator of the Johann Kneitinger Brewery.

On tap (at the brewery) Chestnut-amber coloured, smaller lacing off-white head; nutty, caramelly nose with a toasted touch and a metallic tinge; solid bitter-sweet flavour, light to medium bodied; caramelly, slightly sweetish finish with a bitter counterpart in the aftertaste. Well balanced, delicious brew..........

On tap (at the brewery): Golden, firm creamy white head; faint grainy-worty nose with very faint illusions of hops; light to moderate bitter-sweet flavour, soft MF, light to medium bodied; grainy-fruity finish with atinge of sourness in the aftertaste. Drinkable, nothing more..........

Bottle. Pale golden with a slight white head. Herbal, grassy aroma followed by a sweet malt flavour. OK but not memorable.

500 ml bottle from Reading BF. chestnut brown with a slight beige head. Aroma was of sweet malt. Flavours of red fruits with warming alcohol coming through discordantly in the finish. Pretty good.

Bottle at Reading BF 06. Deep ruby with lasting bneige head. Overly carbonated, nice toffee though. Some coffee and bit of choc. I am a big fan of dunkels and this hit the spot.

Bottle
Red chestnut colouring, creamy brown head. Roasted, caramelized and hopfresh aroma. Slightly roasted and nutty favors, fresh, but somewhat one-dimensional. Medium to light body, lacking exit - ever so slight caramel and nut aftertaste.

Bottle
Golden fluffy white headd. Flowery perfumed hop aroma. Sweet candyish yet quite lightbodied malt body overlaid with aromatic hops. Too little substance.

Bottle
Dark chestnut, low brown head. Caramel, subtle chocolate notes, nice hop aroma. Caramel and chocolate base, nuts and marzipan, good underlying hop profile - ligther than I expected. Sugary aftertaste, oily mouthfeel.

Test vom 2.4.2005, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 7,9,8,10,9,9 - 8,80
