Cask at GBBF. Big coffee and cocoa nose. Pitcvh black color with lace. Creamy vanilla, coffee, chocolate flavors. Light but full bodied. Rich and lovely. Nice hops as well, with tobacco notes. bitter, hot finish.

Bottle sample at a tasting at the Beer & Beyond shop. Thanks zvikar. Brewed 5/11. Very dark brown with a beige head. Roasty aroma, pretty powerful, with espresso, dark chocolate, a bit of soy sauce and a bit of alcohol. Sweetish flavor of dark chocolate, a bit of soy sauce notes, some espresso and light licorice notes. Full-bodied, silky rounded mouthfeel. A very good Imperial Stout.

Bottle - Licorice, bitter chocolate and heavy roasted malts. Jet black with a creamy brown head. Coffee, roasted malts, a bit of smoke and alcohol. Thick on the pallet but appropriately so and a very long coffee finish. Very nice.

275 ml bottle into tulip glass, best before 9/19/2024. Pours nearly pitch black color with a 2-3 finger dense and fluffy tan head with incredible retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, toast, light char, coffee, dark bread, and roasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark and roasted malt notes; with good strength. Taste of big dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, toast, char, coffee, dark bread, light raisin, licorice, and roasted earthiness. Lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, toast, char, coffee, dark bread, licorice, and roasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Excellent balance and complexity of dark and roasted malt flavors with light fruitiness; with big robustness and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a creamy, slick, fairly chalky, and lightly prickly mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warming noticed after the finish; very smooth to sip on for 10%. Overall this is a highly excellent imperial stout! Great balance and complexity of big dark/roasted malt flavors; and very smooth to sip on. A highly enjoyable offering.

Medium beige head. Clear amber body. Fruity toffee aroma with caramelly notes. Sweetish earthy raisins and caramel taste with spicy notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, soft mouthfeel. Dryish perfumy caramel and licorice aftertaste with spicy notes. Finish is kind of watery, but still a nice, delicate beer. (0.5l bottle, from Co-op, Whitby.)

Bottled at Masterclass by Ron Pattinson @ de Prael. Dark color, short head. Aroma has a huge alcohol nose, together with some roasted malts and coffee, hint of fruity english yeast, no brett around. Alcohol in taste as well, bit bitter, bit sweet. Bit overpowered by the alcohol, which I didnt expect to be honest.

On tap @ the Bailie. Pours amber with some gentle carbonation and a decent head. The nose has mostly malt with just a hint of sweetness. The taste has malt, honey and spice. The palate is medium bodied with a good texture and a fairly well balance finished. Overall, solid, though no great shakes by today’s standards.

Cask pints on 28 Jun 2013 at The RAF Cosford WO and Sgt’s Mess Summer Ball (of all places). Not bad, remember it being a bit thicker and richer from years ago: this seemed to be a watered down version. Looked OK: amber/golden brown body with a full off-white cap. Malts, semi-fruity nose and taste, a decent enough blend but missing deep flavours and oomph. Moved onto dark Rum and Coke after three pints.

Cask at the Wheatsheaf and Pigeon, Staines. Pours dark brown with a small head. Aroma is bready malt and caramel. Taste has bready malt to start and a bitter caramel finish.
