Description
As of 1995 the Courage brands were owned by Scottish and Newcastle Breweries. The brands were then sold to Wells and Young's, and then Eagle Brewery. The Eagle Brewery and beer brands including Courage were acquired by Marstons PLC in 2017.
Marstons merged with Carlsberg in 2020. The Eagle Brewery was sold to the Spanish brewer Damm in 2022, with Carlsberg Marston retaining ownership of the brands.
Carlsberg's purchased the remaining Marston share in 2024, and Carlsberg Britvic was formed in 2025. Courage beer brands then become fully owned by Carlsberg Britvic.

Medium offwhite lasting head. Amber body. Strawberry floral hoppy aroma with a malty background. Soft floral strawberry straw and malt taste with resiny floral hop notes. Soft and mild mouthfeel. Very nice. (0.5pt cask at Hand & Shears.)

Cask@The Duke of Edinburgh, Newgale, Wales. Golden brown beer with a strong head. The aroma is caramel, toffee and hopped, and the flavour is lightly toffee and quite hopped. Overall a reasonable toffee and hopped beer.

Cask at the Carousel Lounge, Hythe. Dull amber colour with a thin white head; fragrant leafy hop aroma; dry and biscuity with a sudden fruity burst; and then a well balanced bitter finish. A refined and elegant bitter.

(Cask at Sekforde Arms, Clerkenwell, London, 6 Aug 2007) Dark copper colour with brief beige head. Malty nose with dark fruit and caramel. Malty, nutty taste with caramel and moderate dusty bitterness in the finish. A long time ago this was one of the beer that got me into this love affair with beer. Itโs no longer a great favourite, but surprisingly enough it retains a certain quality. Probably a good thing that W&Y took over from S&N. Better than expected, still a decent pint.

Bottled. This was one of my first beers tasted - the main memories are a very slight, sweet caramel aroma followed by flavours of water, water and a touch more sweetness. A slightly dry finish. Thankfully things got better....

Cask at The Giddy Bridge, Southampton. Nut brown. Sweet, fruity stale hop aroma. Medium bodied with clean, rounded mouthfeel. Really nutty with some caramel and dusty vegetables as well as old figs. Medium bitterness. Possesses a fair bit of character.

12oz bottle pours gold with creamy lasting off white head. The aroma is sweet sweet malts, a bit of spicy noble hops and minerals. The flavor reminds me of a Bass. This beer isnโt as malty sweet though. I like the better balance between the sweet and grainy malts and the spice-floral noble hops. Above average carbonation keeps the flavors bright and at the forefront.
