Description
The Ottenbräu brewery was first mentioned in a document in 1609. But the oldest lager cellar even dates back to the 13th century. The brewery has been owned by the Neumaier family since 1846. Currently Robert Neumaier is the owner of this one-man business. So he is the one who shows visitors around, who cleans the tanks, cleans the floor, brews the beer and even delivers it himself twice a week. The brewery and the beers are ''Zwergenfrei'' (free of gnomes) which is of course a tease towards the nearby big Kuchlbauer brewery and their obsession with gnomes.

(bottle) Clear, deep golden colour with a fluffy and slightly off-white foamy head. Mildly biscuity cara-malty aroma with herbal hoppy spice. Sweet and slightly bitter flavour, medium bodied with an almost silky, well-matured carbonation. Smooth cara-malty and biscuity taste with delicately honeyish fruity notes, as well as herbal hoppy accents from behind; long-lasting biscuity malty and mildly herbal hoppy finish. A well-crafted Festbier, that deserves its name. 20.V.13

(bottle) Clear, golden colour with a big and blond foamy head. Grainy (cara-)malty and slightly milky aroma with a tinge of herbal hops. Moderately sweet and slightly bitter flavour, light to medium bodied with a well-carbonated mouthfeel. Balanced malty, slightly biscuity taste with a delicate but still present herbal spicy hops character; quite lasting malty finish. Good. 20.V.13

Bottle: Golden to deep golden, clear, medium-sized creamy off-white head with a little lace, moderate to solid bisquity-bready nose, supported by some spicy hops; moderate sweet-bitter flavour, smooth MF; bisquity and honeyish finish, again balanced by a delicate touch of aromatic hops. Really a nice Märzen…

Nice aroma , so-so appearance, and mediocre taste. Normal dark golden color for the style, very malty aroma.Taste is decent but short, not much of a finish. Drinkability is a key quality of a festbier, and this one definitely is.

bottle from Bierzwerg. Clear deep golden colour, creamy white head. Low carbonation and smooth palate. Malty background with a shy fruity touch. Resiny-grassy hops with herbal accents finish this beer. Another goodie from Ottenbräu.

Lahev: Golden with a greenish sheen, medium-sized beaten-egg-white-like head with a good lace, hayish-grainy nose with a tinge of aromatic hops and bisquits (presumably the "house-aroma"?!); moderate sweetish-bitter flavour, extremely smooth, almost medium bodied; quite well balanced bitter-bisquity finish. Pretty good Helles…

500ml bottle. Clear golden colour with average, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, white head. Grainy and strawy aroma with a hoppy note on the way to soapy. Taste is monotonous, minimally sweet pale malty, notes of husk and straw, at least a fresh touch of citrus; light body. Can’t take pleasure in this.
