Description
In 1852 Ludwig Bauhöfer founded the brewery. He knew that the people in the region particularly appreciate quality and regional specialities when it comes to eating and drinking, and his beer soon became so popular that the small family business developed into one a modern brewery after only a few years.
Today we can look back on a long brewing tradition that has grown over generations. The popularity of Ulmer beers has not changed to this day and the specialties of the family brewery make new friends every day.

330ml bottle [thereby boycotting barlebier’s proposal to boycott Vollmondbiere; a double barefaced act because the bottle is a trade-item sent by him - my thanks and apology]. Clear, reddish mahogany colour with average, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, full moon-ochre coloured head. Dark malty aroma with slightly grassy, hoppy overtones, hints of malt lozenge sweetness, a touch of treacle and pancake crust. Taste is slightly anaemic dark malty, a touch of malt lozenge, disguised by a dry, grassy, almost a bit metallic veil. A partial lunar eclipse.

bottle, with huge thanks to kappldav123! Golden colour, small white head. A surpsisingly fruity hoppy nose hovers above the glass, reminiscent of a good American IPA, quite promising! Full-bodied, good malty base with a touch of warming alcohol. Good fruity hops such as apricot and peach are there. Lingering hoppy finish with more warming alcohol.

Bottle from the brewery. Nr. 0539/2014. Looks really, really good. Beer in the glass zippy, nice small head. Like last years edition again a surprisingly fruity aroma that reminds me of an IPA. Starts strong, intense malty, but also with strong hoppy-fruity notes. Fruity like grapefruity, bitter background. Finish more alcoholic, but not too intense. Warming-alcoholic aftertaste, still with hoppy-fruity notes. Quite drinkable. Cannot remember that I ever had such a hoppy eisbock. Really, really nice!

Bottle from the brewery. Nr. 1720/2013. Looks really, really good. Beer in the glass deep golden, small head. Surprisingly intense fruity aroma. Starts strong, quite malty, not too alcoholic. Also with fine hoppy-dry notes. Fruity like unripe apricots. Also some sweet hints. Finish more alcoholic, but not too much. Goes down warming. Really well done! A beer to enjoy!
