Poured on tap at the Suntory Kyoto brewery on a tour. Deep, rich orange-amber with an extremely thick, fine head. Clear. Nose is vanilla, caramel, stone fruit, apple, melon. Rich and fruity with big but subdued whisky. Flavor is rich and malty, vanilla, caramel, lots of fruit, no peat or smoke to speak of. Not much of hops, but lovely barrel character. Smooth, full, and silky texture. A great dram. Ridiculously overpriced, but the best in their barrel aged beer series to date.

Can from Family Mart. Pours a deep golden amber with a low, thick head. Lovely. Closing in on Marzen territory with this color. Aroma too. Very malty, toasty, yeah, I'm going to change this to a Marzen. It's very toasty, slightly nutty, and a touch of caramel. Lovely malt nose. Light, herbal hops. Nutty, toasty flavor, some caramel, a touch of stone fruit, and strong bitterness in the finish with light, subtle, noble hop flavors. This is really well done. Just a bit metallic in the finish. I keep saying this, but maybe the best of the lineup so far?

500 ml can. Medium golden. Fruity, creamy nose, orange, lemon, stone fruit. Somewhat sweet, fruity flavor, stone fruit and citrus. Not sure if the Saphir hops couldn't have been put to a better use, but this was decent enough.

Can from Yamaya. ¥205. Cheap. Pours a bright, clear gold with a tall, effervescent head. Proper helles nose. Bready malt, a touch doughy, with light, lemony hops and some herbality. Flavor is fruity and sweet with a sofy breadiness and a touch of dough. Lightly bitter in the finish. AS bit too highly carbonated, but soft besides that. For a cheap, industrial Japanese helles, it's not bad at all. It's not an Augustiner, of course.

From one Japanese shop, in Paris. It is a regular lager, smooth and pleasant, bready, classical hop, a bit watery, simple and refreshing, 28.03.19, at Epalinges.
