De naam “Corsendonk” verwijst naar de priorij van Corsendonk, een voormalig augustijner klooster te Oud-Turnhout. De priorij bestond van 1398 tot 1784. Vanaf 1906 werd de brouwerijtraditie van Priorij Corsendonk door Henricus Keersmaekers (de grondlegger van de dynastie) met zijn eigen brouwerij te Oud-Turnhout voortgezet. In 1952 werd gestopt met het zelf brouwen van bier en werd de firma een distributiebedrijf. In 1982 werd op vraag en met de steun van de Oud-Turnhoutse VVV gestart met de productie van Corsendonk-bier.
Het bier wordt van begin af aan gebrouwen door Brouwerij du Bocq. Later is de familie Keersmaeker 100% eigenaar geworden van du Bocq. Dat was een geleidelijk proces waarbij gedurende een periode van 10 jaar elk jaar 10% van de brouwerij werd gelocht. Het was pas in 2014 dat bekend werd gemaakt dat de familie Keersmaeker 100% eigenaar waren van de brouwerij.

Bottle. Blackish coloured beer with a brownish tinge. The aroma is malty, and the flavour is rich and malty with a touch of herbalness, and some roastedness and bitterness. Overall a nice richly flavoured beer.

Deep ruby brown colour, small fizzy beige head, mostly diminishing, thin layer with yeast circles remains. Aroma roasted malt, caramel, raisins, candy suga. Taste light heavy sweet and slightly bitter, malty, candy sugar, toffee, raisins, alcohol, leading to a malty sweet aftertaste, spicy notes. A rich and tasty beer, good.

Hazy medium amber colour, small but lasting frothy white head, some yeast circles remain after dissipating, light lacing. Aroma sweet malt, caramel, pear, apricot, Belgian yeast, spicy notes. Taste medium sweet, malty, toffee, apricot, yeast, coriander, alcohol. Sweetbitter aftertaste, sweet malt, grain, spicy notes. Medium body, creamy texture, soft carbonation; , a rich tripel, well-balanced, very good.

Pours blond with a small white head. Smells quite sweet and a bit floral. Tastes like an unspectacular Belgian blond. Bit thin in the mouth and really nothing special.

C: dark brown, red against the light, opaque.
A: malty, spicy, brown sugar, dark fruits, toffee, dark caramel, yeast.
T: malty, toffee, hint of chocolate, molasses, brown sugar, dark fruits, liquorice, spicy, medium to full body, good carbonation, good one, 25cl bottle from Carrefour in Etterbeek in Brussels.

Bière 33 cl bue au Sherlock à Lille. Robe dorée avec bulles fines et mousse stable à 3 mm. Nez typique des bières d'abbaye belges traditionnelles : céréales, levure, sucre / miel. Ça se confirme en bouche, une bière plutôt équilibrée mais qui ne me fait pas rêver, probablement parce qu'elle n'est pas vraiment en adéquation avec mes goûts du moment.

My thanks to Belgiuminabox for the access. I have a .33 liter bottle to try, let’s go. My ABGB snifter gets the pour, a chestnut brown body topped by a voluminous, near-tan head. The smell is grand, dark fruit, sweetened cereal and bit-o-honey. I have a drink. There is plum, malt, grain and a touch of caramel. Rather thick. Quite good, it is a dubbel after all, but down the line for me.
