Description
Corcoran Brewing Company was founded in 2011 on the beautiful foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Waterford Virginia. This was the second business venture for Corcoran whom had been making award winning wines since 2004. Corcoran which is family owned and operated decided in 2011 to branch out into the hand crafted beer industry. Initially started in a barn on old farmland near Corcoran Vineyards, this combination became Virginia’s first vineyard / brewery combo in the state. After several years of growing business it was realized that there was not enough room to stay as demand for the beer grew. In early 2014 the brewery was moved to Purcellville Virginia which is about 6 miles from where it started. Corcoran Brewing Company has produced over thirty three distinct beers since opening day. We strive to create both traditional beer types as well as creating unique experiences with experimental beers. On any given day we have twelve beers on tap ranging from Kolsch style, American Pale Ales, IPAs, Imperial IPAs, Stouts, Bourbon barrel aged, port barrel aged and more. This daily broad selection of quality hand-made craft beers has been a primary reason for our success. Customers can always find a beer that meets their drinking style.

Sampled draft at the brewery. Poured a nearly pitch black color, with some dark ruby notes around the edges. Aroma was a lot of roasted malt notes, some chocolate notes. Flavor had dark chocolates, bitterness, roasted character. Was a touch thin on the palate, but there were no harsh booze notes on the flip side, making this a lot more tolerable in the 90 degree almost 100% humid weather.

Sampled draft at the brewery. Poured a clear golden color, small white head. Aroma was grass, some grain notes. Light, sweet malts, grains. Not much to this, but for nearly 90 degrees out, this was refreshing and broke up the other brews I sampled here a bit.

Draft sample at the brewery. Poured a slightly hazy amber color with a small off-white head. Aroma was floral notes, sweet malts. Flavor was some earthy notes, citrus hop character surrounded by crisp caramel malts. Hop blend produces a more complex pale than I otherwise expected.

Draft sample at the brewery. Poured a pretty dark color, tan head. Aroma was roasted malts, chocolate notes, light citrus character. Flavor was slightly herbal, earthy hops, citrus hops. Roasted malts and a touch of coffee were in there too. Favorite of the trip. Alcohol hidden, surprisingly refreshing.

Had this at the Summer NOVA BrewFest. Poured a relatively clear orange color with a medium sized white head. Aroma was notes of grapefruit, pine, sweet malts. Flavor was a very vibrant pine hop aroma, with plenty of citrus notes. A touch zest in there - pretty darn good, refreshing. Certainly the best I’ve had from them.

Sampled on tap at the brewery. Pours a watery, translucent, deep brown with some frothy, beige head. Nose is bursting with milk chocolate and vanilla. Not much else. Flavor is the same, some malt, but mostly just chocolate milk and vanilla extract. Crazy. My wife swore she was drinking a Yoohoo. Sweet finish. Total gimmick beer, but interesting.

Sampled on tap at the brewery. Pours a clear amber with some very frothy, white head. Nose of a barleywine, raisin, orange, caramel, light brown sugar, pine tar. Flavor is the same, overly sweet, heavy brown sugar, caramel, orange, pine, grapefruit. Needs 30% less caramel malt to be a DIPA. Sticky finish. A little messy.
