RBSG 2007 Grand Tasting. Clear golden body with a small frothy white head. Sweet malty aroma. Fizzy light chocolate and malt flavor.

Yet another in the line of perfect-appearance-beers from Heavyweight. Big and lasting chocolate-beige head tops a dark brown-black body with some maroon highlights. Lacing is strong.
Unfortunately it’s, "yet another in the line of very-buttery-but-otherwise-good-beers from Heavyweight". Arg! How annoying is their bottling line? This one seems to have a wonderful maltiness, smooth, slightly chocolatey and with some chocolate liqueur-like dryness and light earthiness for balance. Cakey with vanilla and mild fruit esters, it, nonetheless, is dominated by diacetyl.
The flavor seems a bit underattenuated in its sweetness, with lots of sticky caramel and chocolate, but still enough raisin and flakey roast to keep it mostly manageable. The carbonation, very tight, helps mitigate this somewhat and a light cherry and honey flavor is noted on the finish. Some breadiness (dry roast) and a bit of sweet vanillin collect on the palate as well, but it’s eventually all drowned out by butter. Would be a pretty nice beer were it not for all of the diacetyl....

Bottle. (THX to Papsoe) . Golden colour with an off-white head. Aroma is honey, hop. Flavour is honey, hop, caraamel, fruit. Strange brew.

Bottle. (thx to papsoe) Clear, golden, with a minimal off-white head. A bit smoked, lightly sour and some sweetness in the nose. Sweetness, some dried fruits, caramel and a wee hint of acidity in the flavor. Medium body with a little astringent feeling. Strange beer, drinkable though. Not really sure that they brewed what they intended... (070510)

sample from bottle at DLD - Pours very dark brown to black with a roast malt and dark fruit aroma. The flavor has the expected roast malt, some chocolate, and considerable raisin notes. It’s medium bodied and smooth on the palate with pretty solid balance and an enjoyable finish. Nice brew.

sample at DLD - Pours amber with a moderate head. It smells of sweet malts and a bit of dark fruit. The flavor was both sweet and surprisingly sour. Medium bodied and lively, this one was... interesting.

Überaus komplexer Gerich, sehr würzig, fruchtig, kräuterartig. Saurer Antrunk, in dem die Kräuter erkennbar werden. Die Säuerlichkeit nimmt nach und nach stark ab, die Würze bleibt auf konstant hohem Lever, ebenso wie die kräuterartigen Aromen. Danke an den Doppelbock für das Teilen des Bieres. Hazy brown body with a small tan head. Sweet malty cand caramel aroma. Sweet malty flavor with a sour background. Everything seemed fine until the sour flavor hits you. Most likely a bad keg that’s since been removed from the tap lineup here. A shame since being retired, it’s unlikely to find it again.

Bottle...dark caramel color with some redness...the alcohol scent is blanketed by some syrupy malts...minimal foam...visible sediment floats in my glass...very smooth mouth feel...malty body a tease of brown sugars with a muddled citrus finish
