Nestled in the heart of the Jura, the Rouget de Lisle Brewery has been producing beers of character since 1994 with the purest respect for traditions. From childhood, Bruno Mangin, the founder, had a passion for beer. In 1990 Bruno and his wife Roseline opened a unique restaurant concept around beer and offered a menu of 340 beers from 40 countries. They prepare dishes cooked with beer. Their passion for beer being the strongest, they start to "cook their own beers" in their restaurant. Finally in 1994, they decide to produce a range of beers developed on the basis of their own recipes. In 2002, they set up the brewery in Bletterans.
In all, the brewery offers 13 different beers in bottles, part of which is aged in barrels, plus seasonal beers. The brewery produces 6,000 to 12,000 liters of beer per day. Fermentation is a minimum of one week then cellaring for 3 weeks. Then it is filtered on earth. These are unique and rare processes in the production of beer, which explains their quality.
(Bottle 75 cl) Clear, pilsener golden with a small, white head. Fresh, malty nose. Medium body, malty and slightly metallic with a typical vaguely fusty Bière de Garde touch. 050706
(Bottle 75 cl) Amber golden with floating impurities and a small, white head. Smells somewhat moldy. Medium-bodied with vague caramelish notes. Discreet hoppy finish. 300406
A deep amber beer with slight sediment floating around under a thin beige head. The aroma is sweet with primary notes of strawberries, but also a slight dusty note. The flavor is sweet malty combined with light notes of berries, leading to a end with notes of straw.
A hazy orange beer with no head. The aroma is acidic with some weird spice notes - could it be the absinth? The flavor is acidic and spicy combined with light malt notes.
A hazy orange beer with a thin white head. The aroma is sweet lemony and so is the flavor, while the body is thin. Quite refreshing, but nothing special.
A hazy amber beer with no head. The aroma has some weird herbal notes combined with some smoky notes, while the flavor also has these weird herbal notes on a sweet background, but without much smoke - it kinds of blends in with the herbal notes.
A yellow beer with a white head. The aroma is slightly acidic combined with notes of yeast. The flavor is very lightly malty and lightly yeasty, leading to a dry slightly citrusy end, over a thin body. Forgetable.
An amber beer with a light brown head. The aroma is sweet spicy with notes of citrus and caramel. The flavor is sweet fruity with notes of wood and nutmeg, leading to a dry fruity end.
(Bottle 33 cl) Pale amber colour with a moderate, creamy head. Quite full body with a good, solid hopping. Unfortunately it has an extremely unpleasant fusty tang of old iron. I don’t believe it’s the gentiane. Shame. 020803
(Bottle 33 cl) Very pale, almost greyish, hazy, with a very white, tall head. Fresh and quenching with a rather eccentric spicing that differs a lot from the traditional Belgian witbier. I detect...ginger? Typically French and different. 271002
