Black color, minimal tan hed that quickly diminishes. Aroma has intense notes of nuts, light caramel and toasted malts. Flavor with a slightly bitterness, burnt sugar, dry fruits. Smoothy final, dense and creamy on palate. Very good.

Bottle 33 cl. Pours a cloudy - almost opaque orange - with a small, white head. Sweet, boozy aroma, some tired hops - but not really greasy. Rich, sweet, malty body, fruity. Heavy bitter finish. Not hopeless but lacking quite something in the aromatics. 050717

The imperial stout from this craft brewery in Madrid, tasted from tap at Craft & Draft, Amsterdam. Cobweb-lacing, yellowish beige, densely moussy head; blackish robe but still a bit translucent on the edges, burgundy with ruby red tinge. Aroma of liquorish and butterscotch candy, ’Haagse hopjes’, pear syrup, treacle, smoked prunes, Cuban cigars, ’Limburgse vla’, pipe tobacco, dried bladderwort, chocolate, raisins, vague vanilla touch. Sweetish dried fig, raisins and candied banana in the onset, lots of butterscotch and ’hard caramel’ maltiness drenched in a beefy umami influence, touch of black olive; soft carbo, thick and oily mouthfeel, nutty with a toasted and ’black’ chocolatey bitterness to it but not becoming deeply roasted, sweetness remains strong (treacle) but balanced by the toastedness, a peppery hop finish and warming, rum-like alcohol. Very well-made, but I would not call this an imperial stout, for which it lacks a bit of depth, thickness and black roastedness; more a kind of export stout, actually, but a good one at that.

Spanish smoked porter, tasted from tap at Craft & Draft. Thick and creamy, pale yellowish beige, lacing head over a very dark bronze beer, almost black, but with translucent, hazy copper-red tinge. Aroma of smoked bacon, unsugared chocolate, cured meat, burnt toast, dry tea, butterscotch, dried plums, blueberries, ashes, burnt wood. Dried fig and dito plums in the mouth, old raisins, only very lightly sweetish, more umami (dried beef), sourish roasted barley undertone, soft carbo, nutty, smooth, bit resiny maltiness, lots of black toasted bread, pleasantly dry, roasted coffee grounds-bitter and spicy hop bitter finish with the smokiness (smoked bacon again, some charcoal) rising up retronasally; very dry overall. Well-made, tasty and cleverly balanced epigone of Alaskan Smoked Porter.

Thank you tderoeck! Sampled draft @ VCBF 2017. Black, little tanned head. Nose is sweet umami, cacao, sugar, varnish alcohol, herbal sweet, odd artificial sweet feel. Taste is herbal, little depth, cacao, mocha plastic, caramel, boozy, same odd herbal plastic. Body is plastic, herbal. Too umami, basic no depth for me. Not a top RIS but a nice beer. #800 RIS.
