On tap at the brewpub. A black, clear-looking beer with a dense, finger-thick, tan head with poor longievety. The aroma has licorice first, then a heavy roasted aroma and dark sugar shows up. Prunes as well. The flavor is sweet and roasted, with dark dried fruits, salty licorice and a good hoppy bitterness. Some alcohol, citrus and pine too. It’s full-bodied and warming, finish roasted-bitter and slightly hop-bitter. A really lovely one, goes down easily too. A tad sweet maybe, and the alcohol is well hidden, which makes it a dangerous one to drink. I had a glass of this one six weeks after my first one, then it wasn’t at the same level, but I suspect that’s due to the lines at the brewpub. Won’t hold it against the beer, as it was delicious the first time. 100330
