500 ml brown bottle, courtesy of Cardinal pub, Stavanger. ABV is 7.2%. Brewed at the Ram brewery, shortly before closing, BB date 20. Sep. 2007 (will probably be good much longer than that). Code L6263 07:57 Y. Hazy deep brown colour, large and lasting tan head. Nice aroma of malts and hops (no surprise), hints of vanilla, chocolate, raisins and leather. The flavour is perfectly balanced between the malts and hops, both elements being present in generous amounts. Notes of caramel, toffee and oak. Sweet, but not too much. I drank it colder than the recommended room temperature, and don’t regret that. A hoppy bitterness + oak in the aftertaste. A very nice beer - I hope "Wells and Young’s" will keep it in their portfolio.

Bottled. A clear, golden, lightly sparkling beer. It has a quite malty nose, with beefstock, hops and pine. The flavor is beefstock, malt, sweetness and maybe a bit low on the hops. Full to medium body, quite silky. A really lovely beer that is well suited for an anniversary. Thx to KnutAlbert for this rare gem. (070213)

Medium white head; brown body with carbonation. Light caramelly hop aroma, very harmonic. Sweetish nutty caramel taste with dry, caramelly aftertaste. Very harmonic and balanced. Extremely drinkable. Dry, light citrusy edge. (0.5l bottle. Thanks to KnutAlbert for this one!)

Bottle. Best by June 12th 2006, so I don’t know if the flavor is not up to par with the regular version. One of the better barley wine beers I have had, slightly lower in alcohol content compared to most I have had, but that is made up in the flavor of the beer. Nice roasted malt and caramel flavors.

Bottle 0,5l. Golden coloured. A rapidly disappearing head. Some spice in the nose. A rounded impression with a spicy (cinnamon) flavour leaving a dry mouthfeel. A typical Youngs ale with no touch of Christmas.

Small white head. Amber body with a slight haze. Mild nutty hop aroma with something funny in the background kind of like gasoline (may be because the beer is 9 months past the sell-by date). Taste is watery chalky paper and bitterness. It must be too old, so I’m rating it a bit leniently, given that I’ll probably never be able to re-rate. This probably was a nice bitter when they bottled it. (0.5l bottle, thanks to Knut Albert.)

Bottled. Clear, copper-colored beer with an off-white head. Roasted aroma with chocolate, caramel-notes, frutiyness and malt. The flavor is a bit weaker, with roasted malt and caramel. The mouthfeel really ruins this beer, thin and watery, yet it is a quice nice and quaffable beer. (061124)

Bottle: pours a bright chestnut with off-white head; hint of orange and spice on the nose; grapefruit and malt in the mouth with an understated bitterness.

500ml bottle (bb.; May 07) bought at Sainsburys, St. Albans last September and enjoyed on a Saturday eve at home. Inviting golden brown body with great clarity, laceworks and some white foam. Discreet fresh floral aroma. Malty flavoured impression combined with hops and herbs. Velvet mouthfeel. Vague, but elegant bitter finish (16.12.2006).
