On tap at Starr Hill April 4, 2006. Black with a small brown head. Not much of a smell at all. Nice bitterness in the mouth with a slight bite. Extremely long and lingering bitter finish.

On tap at the brewery on 05/09/2009. Somewhat hazy orange amber body with a medium frothy off-white head. Sweet floral and grassy hop aroma with a light pale malt background. Big grassy and floral hop flavor with a pale malt background. 7/3/7/3/13 - 3.3 03/31/2006: Cask at The Commercial Taphouse. Hazy amber color with a thick frothy off-white head. Sweet aromatic hops aroma. Light citrus bitter flavor with some sweetness in the end. 8/4/8/3/15 - 3.8

On tap at the brewery on 05/09/2009. Very clear amber body with a medium creamy off-white head. Toasty and light grainy aroma with faint floral notes. Sweet toasty flavor with light grainy hints and a smooth floral hop background. On tap at South Street Brewery, Charlottesville. Pours dark brown, nearly black, with a small head. Aromas of roasted malts and some smokiness. Tastes kinda like a brown ale, with deeper, roastier malts, and a slight hint of a smoky aftertaste.

On cask at Michael’s Bistro, Charlottesville. Poured a medium amber with a decent head (the waitress told me the head was huge, which was why it took so long to get my beer, because she wanted me to have beer and not just head). Hoppy, bittersweet aroma, similar to the "pale ale" (which is really an IPA anyway). Floral hoppy flavor- not overpowering, but not weak. Tasty.

NOTE: my original rating was a 4.5 overall. That was from before Starr Hill moved out of Charlottesville and the quality dropped tremendously. Old review is below: Draft at Blue Light, Charlottesville, VA. Black, thick, and only a dusting of a head. Aromas of roasted nutty malts, caramel, coffee, and chocolates. Flavor is striking: light chocolates, nuttiness, caramel, and toffee. Finishes nice and smooth. Reminds me a tiny bit of the Buckeye Vanilla Porter, without the vanilla.

Cloudy yellowish with a small head. Little aroma. Flavor is mainly banana, which is good- but it’s thin. Not bad, might try it again.

Hazy amber coloured body with a nice sized frothy off-white head. Aroma of english hops, cardboard, malt, toffee and a small amount of grapefruit. Medium-bodied; Mild hop flavour with hardly any malt backbone. Spicey grapefruityness with some toffee flavours run deep. Aftertaste is fairly bland-no complexity and not much else going on. Overall, a decent pale. I think mine was well past its prime-but with all my other beer, it was a hard one to finally drink! Try it fresh-I will too, but expect a decent pale, nothing amazing. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Norm’s in Vienna, Virginia on 05-September-2004.

Super hazy golden coloured body...BEYOND hazy. Small, white head that stays afloat for a while. Aroma of banana, cloves, bubble gum and some more spice. Medium-bodied; Large spices in the taste with a slight unfinished flavour. Aftertaste very clean with light sugars and spice. Overall, VERY nice! I sampled this on ’pseudo-draught’ at the Old Dominion Brew Festival 2004 on 27-June-2004 in Ashburn, Virginia.
