22 ounce bottle into snifter, no bottle dating. Pours hazy/cloudy very dark brown color with a small dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin lacing cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a light amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of raisin, plum, fig, cherry, caramel, molasses, brown sugar, toast, brown bread, light chocolate, herbal, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good complexity and solid balance of dark/bready malt, fruitiness, and earthy hop notes; with solid strength. A bit strong on fruitiness, but not bad. Taste of raisin, plum, fig, cherry, caramel, molasses, toast, brown sugar, brown bread, light chocolate, herbal, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Light amount of earthy hop bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of raisin, plum, fig, cherry, caramel, molasses, toast, brown sugar, brown bread, light chocolate, herbal, and yeast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity and balance of dark/bready malt, fruitiness, and earthy hop flavors; with a good malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Light carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a smooth and moderately creamy/slick mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with only a small warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very good barelywine style. All around good complexity and balance of dark/bready malt, fruitiness, and earthy hop flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the big ABV. A nicely enjoyable offering.

Some coffee and roast but ingredients donβt mesh well. Pours black, OK head and lacing. Thick consistently. Kind of an oaky astringent finish. Bottle.

Keg at A.W.Shucks, Carmel, 30/04/14. Lightly hazed golden orange with a moderate white swirl and edgework. Nose is citric rinds, lemon, ornage peel, straw. Taste is pretty bland, citric forward, grass, light spice, metallic rinse. Medium bodied, prickly carbonation, crisp close. Pretty blah, rates a rate ! More mediocrity from Menodcino!

22oz bottle picked up in Vacaville
Cloudy amber with a medium sized off-white head and some lacing. Aroma of caramel, sweet malts and grapefruit. Taste is sweet caramel and pine resin
OK, but sweeter than I like in a DIPA

Hazy gold pour with a tall, off-white head. Big citrus hop aroma. The flavor is mostly hop bitterness with malt sweetness in a support role. Decent beer.

Bottle shared @ weekly tasting. Dark brown to black color, medium sized brown head that leaves fair lacing. Aroma is malts, roasted malts, liquorice, a touch of hops. Pretty nice actually. Taste malts, lightly roasted malts, again liquorice, nicely bitter. Medium body and carbonation. I like it. Nice beer imo.

Bottle in our appartment, Kanapali Beach Maui, from Wine Corner Paia 25/04/14. Black with a moderate tan covering that retains well. Nose is bitter roast, earthy cocoa, slight lactic ring, molasses, dark berry fruits. Taste comprises light sweet lickings, chocolate dipped raspberries, toffee fudge, dark berry fruit twang, light roast. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Ok dry stout, this was the best beer by some way of a mediocre triumvirate from Mendocino.
