About
Co-founded in 1981 as Pitfield Brewery by Rob Jones (who went on to set up Dark Star brewery) and Martin Kemp operating from 8 Pitfield Street, N1 before moving to 4 Hoxton Square, N1 in 1986. Briefly relocated to Stourbridge following a merger with Premier Midland Ales, becoming Pitfield's Premier Brewing Co in 1990 but in 1991 the company went into liquidation.

Revived in 1996 as Pitfield's Brewery at 14 Pitfield Street, N1 before relocating outside of London to Great Horkesley, Essex in 2006 and then to Moreton, Ongar in 2007.

Martin, Pitfield's brewer/owner retired in 2012 to run a pub in Newmarket. Andy Skene bought the business and continued to brew Pitfield's beers alongside his own Dominion beers. This ceased in 2018.

500ml bottle. Pours pitch black with a large head. Aroma is licorice, coffee and some dark berries coming through at the end. Not much to start, some berries and faint roasted malt. Finishes with licorice and mild coffee. Hides it strength. Very drinkable for an imperial stout.

375ml bottle. Pours a hazy orange with a tiny head. Aroma is caramel malt with sour white grape notes. Earthy notes start. Orange to end with alochol burn on the finish.

Bottled. A chestnut colored beer with a lazing tan head. The aroma has notes of malt, berries, wood, and brettanomyces. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, wood, and berries as well as lighter notes of brettanomyces, leading to lightly dry and woody finish.

Bottled. A hazy deep red beer with a tan head. The aroma has notes of malt and hops. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, hops, alcohol, and over ripe fruits.

Hazy brown with a small off-white head. Aroma of toffee and fruit, with a hint of coffee roastiness. Sweetish toffee malt flavour with dried fruit, some roasted notes and a hint of alcohol.

Thanks Patrik! Opaque black color, steady creamy beige head. Aroma of coffee, beans/vegetables, a bit milky. Active carbontion, medium-bodied. Milk stoutish sweetness, black coffee, tar, slightly harsh finish. Somewhat alcoholic. Decent.

Thanks Patrik! Bottle says "strong ale". Hazy orange color, small white head. Chalky-yeasty nose with hints of orange peels and malts. Medium-bodied. Similar chalky-citrusy flavor, lemon, organic grains, pine/spruce and alcohol. Slightly unbalanced: a bit too alcoholic sticky, harsh bitter - could be fruitier.

Bottle @ Danish Summer Gathering, 2010. Pours unclear amber with a creamy off white head. Nose is fruit and caramel. Dry and malty flavor. Medium bodied. Nice Mild Ale at 6,5% :-).

Bottled. Amber colour, small off-white head. Aroma is fruits, some nectar as well as spices and quite floral hops. Flavour is fruits, wood and some mild spices and floral hops. Mild alcoholic sweetness as well.

Bottle (bought from 2nd Bishops Stortford Beer Festival). Slightly hazy amber colour with small head. Aroma is fruits, wood and earth. Flavour is fruits and some mild wooden and grassy notes.
