About
Co-founded in 1981 as Pitfield Brewery by Rob Jones (who went on to set up Dark Star brewery) and Martin Kemp operating from 8 Pitfield Street, N1 before moving to 4 Hoxton Square, N1 in 1986. Briefly relocated to Stourbridge following a merger with Premier Midland Ales, becoming Pitfield's Premier Brewing Co in 1990 but in 1991 the company went into liquidation.

Revived in 1996 as Pitfield's Brewery at 14 Pitfield Street, N1 before relocating outside of London to Great Horkesley, Essex in 2006 and then to Moreton, Ongar in 2007.

Martin, Pitfield's brewer/owner retired in 2012 to run a pub in Newmarket. Andy Skene bought the business and continued to brew Pitfield's beers alongside his own Dominion beers. This ceased in 2018.

dark brown, smooth white head. crisp roasted stuff in the aroma, caramel. flavor is caramelly, bitter, nuts, faint malty sweetness.

Bottle, 6.0%. Good roasted aroma, slightly spicy as well. Cloudy dark red brown colour. Very small tan head. The flavour is roasted, yeasty and quite fruity. Long roasted aftertaste, some vinous fruitiness in the finish, and an OK alcohol note. Promising, but too yeasty.

Bottle 50 cl. Courtesy of madmitch76. Pours an almost clear dark amber with a beige head. Roast and chocolate in the nose. Rather solid body, roast malts and chocolate, some phenols and metal, but also raisins and other overripe fruits. Some warming alcohol in the finish. Very solid. 140810

Mahogany with a medium beige head. Sweet aroma with roasted malt, caramel and dark fruit. Flavor was fairly dry with roasted malt, caramel, dark fruits and hops. Finished roasted.

Bottled@The Chriso rock the roof down pre-GBBF tasting. Hazy ambery colour with small white head. Aroma is fruits, wood, some mild herbs and caramel. Flavour is caramel malts, some mild chocolate, nuttyness as well as herbs. Pleasant.

Bottled@The Chriso rock the roof down pre-GBBF tasting. Golden colour, small white head. Aroma is fruits, bread, nectar, earthy and some mild honeyish notes. Flavour is fruits, wood, hops, earth, herbs and mild notes of honey. Balanced, but not very exciting.
