Description
Defying the odds isn’t just what we do, it’s a part of our DNA. We were founded by a woman in 1867. Lived through two wars. Survived a fire. Overcame the Halifax Explosion. Competed as an independent company against breweries 100 times our size. We haven’t just survived - we’ve thrived. And while others back down, we outlast. Moosehead Breweries Limited is the last major brewery in Canada still owned by Canadians. The brewery is located in Saint John, New Brunswick and operates with values that have been safely guarded by the same family for 148 years. Despite obstacles – devastating fires, Prohibition, the Great Depression, two world wars, obstructive trade barriers, and bruising competition from breweries 100 times its size – Moosehead is one of the most durable and long lasting companies in Canada. Ultimately it has been the Oland family’s passion for beer that has enabled them to be successful over the long term. With their product on beer shelves from the Maritimes to B.C., and its flagship Moosehead Lager shipped to approximately 350 distributors in the U.S.; Moosehead has become an iconic mainstay in North America’s beer industry

Nearly clear typical straw yellow Pils. 3cm head very persistent, making the tasting a challenge. Quite floral on the nose and a bit sweet smelling. Not detecting much herbiness. Same in the mouth. The aftertaste has enough bitterness. It is a bit thin up front and a tad sweet for my liking. Ok but not perfectly rounded.

Hazy straw yellow in the glass with a persistent 1cm head. Lemonady, cider nose. Very lemon with hints of spice and wheat. Lemon in taste too with typical wit coriander. Taste profile persists to midrange but falls off quickly with lemon aftertaste. A bit too watery at the backend. Still good and refreshing.

Herb-malziger Beginn, cremig, viel Kaffee.

Clean, light golden-yellow colour with a few bubbles, a frothy-creamy white cap, good stay and some nice lacing spots. Big lime juice aromas over the straw malts. The lime continues into the taste, but a touch milder, giving some fruitiness and sourness over some cereal grains and hints of saltiness. Quite a nice, refreshing, easy-going summer lime beer.

473ml can. (Probably clear), dark chestnut colour with ruby shimmer and average, frothy to creamy, moderately lasting and lacing, beige head. Minimally chocolately and nutty, dark malty and slightly caramel malty aroma, a touch of milk chocolate, dark chocolate. Taste is sweet-ish, slightly nutty and chocolately, dark malty, minimally caramel malty, minimally metallic, hoppy overtones. Watery texture, slightly dry palate, medium, prickly carbonation. Nice malty flavours, could be more creamy - pretty much OK.

473ml can. Opalescent, orange, golden colour with average to huge, frothy to creamy, moderately lasting, minimally lacing, white head. Floral and minimally fruity hoppy aroma, rather neutral, minimally grainy, pale malty background, hints of mandarine and pineapple with a minimally artificial jelly bear touch. Taste is sweet-ish, minimally grainy, pale malty and slightly floral and fruity hoppy, hints of pineapple and mandarine with slight jelly bear touch. Slightly oily, watery texture, smooth and soft palate, medium, soft carbonation. Monotonous on the malty side, rather artificial on the hoppy side - underwhelming.
