Aroma has soapy citrus, toffee and grainy malt typical to alcoholfeee beers. Flavour has toffee, some caramel, metal grassy hops and an english feeling. Weird stuff, not very belgian but nothing else either. Perhaps a little Belgian feeling here anyway.

33 cl bottle @ Gastropub Tuulensuu, BBE 12/2013. Thanks Sami!
Quite pale appearance for a Vienna. Aroma is stale with some roasted malt, berries and metal. Flavour is malty and somewhat sweet with metal, some grain and hints of berries. Slightly foamy palate that becomes sticky towards the end of the glass. Dry finish. Drinkable.

Aroma has fruits, citrus and some toffee typical to belgian ales. Also hints of hay and peaches. Flavour is sweetish with peaches, some grain and hints of hay. Also hints of warming alcohol. Feels a bit like a kellerbier too sweet. Decent.

33 cl bottle (6,2%) @ Gastropub Tuulensuu, BBE 11/2013. Thanks Sami!
Aroma is sweetish with brown sugar and citron. Also hints of wheat and hay. Flavour is sweet with honey, some grain, brown sugar and hints of citron. Sticky finish with honey. Weird stuff, both aroma and flavour feel a bit like homemade alcoholfree mead.

Crazy looking 750ml bottle pours a hazy, golden yellow with a thin white head. Nose is weird, grassy, sugary, a touch of rotten fruit. Flavor is sweet, grassy, sugary, rotten tropical fruits, flowers. Finish is medium bodied. Not good.

500ml bottle at the DC local tasting. Hazy, translucent amber with a frothy white head. Aroma is all amber malts, a little grass. Flavor is sweet, crystal malts, a little yeast, bread. Medium bodied, sessionable. There was some debate over whether this is an amber ale or a biere de garde. I think it’s clearly an amber ale.

Bottle shared at the DC Local tasting. Pours a translucent, nearly opaque brown with a creamy, ringing white head. Aroma is sweet, caramel, root vegetables, a little floral. Flavor is sweet, caramel, milk chocolate, root vegetables, some candy sugar. Some light spice. Sweet, sticky and a little astringent on the finish. Doesn’t have that extra dimension. Makes you wonder, where are the hops?

Bottle from Wine Specialist. Very carbonated. Gushed slowly. Probably live yeast. Translucent dark brown with a huge tan head. Leaves lots of lace. Aromas mostly of darkish fruit - like raisin. Medium body with significant carbonation. Flavor is caramel and raisin with some spice bits. Finishes somewhere between sweet and dry. Not so Gruytie as other Gruyts I’ve had! It heads more towards sweet with the passage of time. Unique.

Bottle from Wine Specialist. Gushed a bit. Hazy gold color with a huge frothy white head. Aroma of citrus and tropical fruit. Near medium body with very frothy/lively carbonation - but it’s bubbly, not sharp. Flavor is lightly malty and a tad yeasty with citrus. Rather astringent. Not super dry, just astringent. A lager that could pass for ale.
