Small darker beige head over fully opaque red-brown beer. Creamy nose, hazelnut-chocolate spread, sweet bread, milkchocolate, and some dry instant coffeepowder. And brown sugar. Surprising lactic-sourish edge to sweet, but also roasted and even lightly smoked touches on milk chocolate. Mainly sweet, Traubenzucker , but glimpses of hopbitterness come peeping around the corner. Pretty balanced. Slick, light to medium bodied, but not empty. Nice, if somewhat unusual Schwarz. Thanks to DeanS!

Bottle, 6%. OK banana aroma. Clody dark grey orange colour. Big stable white head. The flavour has OK banana, hint of clove. Slightly rough bitterness, perhaps from the extra alcohol. Baking yeast aftertaste. Could have been a mediocre German. (Haha, turns out it IS German).

Bottle, thx to thewolf. Pours a clear, dark golden body with an off-white head. Rather boring aroma, and not too good either, with sweetness and grains. It’s not much better in the mouth, it’s full-bodied, with sweetness, grains and some cooked vegetables. Definately not my kind of doppelbock, I actually think it’s a waste of ingredients making a doppelbock this boring and borderline bad. Looks quite good though. (080301)

Biggish white lasting head. Hazy opaque yellow body. Dense chalky wheaty aroma with citric yeast notes. Dense chalky fruity taste with citric, yeasty notes, very like the aroma. Sharpish, powdery mouthfeel. Something vaguely herbal in there, too. Somewhat dry. Spicy, chalky, wheaty aftertaste. Nothing really wrong with it, but nothing too right, either. Overall quite one-dimensional. (0.5l bottle from Spozywczy, Krakow.)

Pours a dark brown, near black colour with some light brown head, perhaps a little too fizzy, although that seemed to disipate. Quite nice dark chocolate aroma and a mellow chocolate taste that’s quite pleasant, but a bit too fleating. There’s very little aftertaste.

Test vom 1.10.2006, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 8,7,10,9,12,8 - 8,50

Surprisingly good. After a vacation to the Czech Republic I think I understand this style. This beer nearly hits the mark. Where it is off is that it is slightly too sweet, but only a little and not overwhelming like some dunkels. The beer is black, very thick and rocky head. Aroma of roasted malt, and dry, roasty flavor with sugar. Heavier than many of the style. Purchased at Surdyk’s; Minneapolis.
