Description
The Dortmunder Union Brewery (DUB) was established in 1873, the first brewmaster was Fritz Brinkhoff (1848-1927), who worked 50 years for the brewery. In 1887, a failed brew was delivered to a customer in Aachen which was a huge success. The Dortmunder Export was born.

In 1994, the Union Brewery took over the Dortmund Ritter Brewery, established in 1889, and renamed itself the Dortmund Union Ritter Brewery. Production was relocated from the city center to the previous production facility of the Ritter brewery on the outskirts in Lütgendortmund. In 2002 the Union-Ritter-Brauerei was renamed the Brinkhoff Brewery, and in 2006 production was relocated to the Dortmunder Actien-Brauerei.

From the tap: Pale golden colour, medium fluffy white head........; all in all: bland, watery, thin bodied, no aroma! Who will be sad, when the brewery will be closed next year ?

Bottle: Golden, bigger fluffy white head; small malty, bready nose with some hints of caramel; sweetish malty, creamy beginning, ending in a bitter-sweet finish, robust, not extremely aromatic, but quite well rounded; nothing great, but fair and quaffable. Cheers to the busy coal-miners !

Bottle from Dortmunder
Pale golden with a green tint, foamy head. Fresh bitterhop and chewy malt nose. Soft malty base, a bit less grainy than you will find in a typical bavarian Helles. Hopprofile reminds me of north german pilseners, chewy full body, mellow soft mouthfeel. Mhh interresting I would like to do some side by side comparisons of different Helles and Dortmunder/Export at some point.

Clear yellow colour with a foamy white head. Grassy hoppy notes with a hint of hemp. Medium carbonated slightly malty taste but thin and watery. Unbalanced bitter hoppy aftertaste. A drinkable but very profane Pilsener.

Warum bloß alle so darauf abgehen...? Test vom 15.11.2004, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 11,9,8,8,11,8 - 8,60

A yellow beer with a white head. The aroma is malty and hoppy, while the flavor is flowery, but boring.

[At Fete de la Biere 2004, Lausanne] A pale yellow beer with no head. The aroma is quite hoppy with sweet notes in the background. The flavor is simple of malt and hops, but the carbonation prickles the tongue. A simple beer.

Blond color. Aroma of unleavened bread. Light maltiness. Unfortunately, too high bread character.
