Description
The Dortmunder Union Brewery (DUB) was established in 1873, the first brewmaster was Fritz Brinkhoff (1848-1927), who worked 50 years for the brewery. In 1887, a failed brew was delivered to a customer in Aachen which was a huge success. The Dortmunder Export was born.
In 1994, the Union Brewery took over the Dortmund Ritter Brewery, established in 1889, and renamed itself the Dortmund Union Ritter Brewery. Production was relocated from the city center to the previous production facility of the Ritter brewery on the outskirts in Lütgendortmund. In 2002 the Union-Ritter-Brauerei was renamed the Brinkhoff Brewery, and in 2006 production was relocated to the Dortmunder Actien-Brauerei.

[Draught] Golden with a dense head. Light, malty aroma. Floral, herbal bitterness. Could’ve been a decent Pils but unfortunately it’s a bit on the watery side.

(Bottle 33 cl) Pours a clear, pilsener golden with a small, white head. Malty aroma. Medium-bodied with a good malt sweetness neatly counterbalanced by a dry and fairly decent hopping. A vague metallic edge. But clean and pleasant indeed. 070806

On tap at Sankeys, Tunbridge Wells. Gold with thin white head. Quite a nice lemon citric hop aroma. Lager feel in mouth. Not overly carbonated but still a bit metallic. Biting hop finish. Really good lager.

Draught at Ship & Mitre, Liverpool. Clear dark brown with beige head. Quite a nice dunkel. Got some nice toffee and cereal, but quite clean, almost tart on the fiish. Not as good as erdinger, quite a deep toffee though and tart. Tad over carbonated, which takes the roundness off it. Some sweet molasses

(bottle) Clear golden colour with a big lacey foamy white head. Grainy malty and grassy hoppy aroma. Medium bitter flavour, medium to light bodied. Light sweet initial malty taste, short and quite flat, slightly dry and bitter finish. Clean brewed Pils, but also without any character.

Bottle: Pale golden, fluffy and lasting white head; some vegetables in the nose, grains and a shy hoppiness; malty start, hoppy middle, malty-grainy finish with some hoppy traces coming very late. A very Export-like Pils.......

Bottle: Pale golden, thin firm white head, a little bit lacing; grainy or malty nose, a touch of cardboard, some hints of hops; nearly dry malty taste, slightly bitter flavour; mild malty-grainy-bitter finish. No "Super-Dort", but quite well quaffable and far better than the Pils.....
