Beartown means more than a pint of beer, it’s a community of drinkers that identify with a cause to give back to their roots. Cask at Bull & Stirrup, Chester. Pours golden amber with a small scummy off-white head and good lacing. The aroma is mainly fudge and toffee mixed with the expected malts. In the mouth it starts off sweet with toffee to the fore again. However, some underlying bitterness soon comes through and this increases to become dominant. Flavour has floral hops and traces of orange and ginger. Bitterness lasts into the finish. I’m not too keen on Beartown beers, but this is decent.

Cask @ Flying Horse Hotel, Rochdale. Golden with a creamy head. Hoppy nose, similar with just a hint of sweetness in taste.

Cask @Treefolk's (Rome). Dorata, mediamente torbida, schiuma bianca media, discretamente persistente. Al naso leggera ossidazione, verdura cotta, note fruttate, leggermente erbacee. In bocca va un po' meglio, è equilibrata, con attacco maltato e amaro contenuto. Corpo leggero, carbonazione leggera. Non al meglio.

Cask @ Gasworks Brew Bar, Manchester. Hazy pale golden with a small bubbly head. Tastes like passionfruit with extra sugars.

Cask at the Hope Tap (JDW), Reading. Amber with a white head and a light to moderate fizz. Excellent condition, well done 'Spoons. Nice and fruity up front, a little caramel, and then a dry twiggy finish with a lasting marmalade bitterness. Very drinkable, very moreish, a decent bitter this.

Cask at Bull & Stirrup, Chester. Pours a slightly hazy straw with a small white head. Not much of an aroma – just vague traces of malt and yeast. In the mouth this starts off quite sweet with a creamy texture, malts to the fore and hints of hops. Later some bitterness creeps in alongside some grains and lemongrass. There’s a little stickiness in the finish. This is reasonable – which is praise because I don’t normally like Beartown beers !

Cask at the Falcon, High Wycombe, 04/10/23. Golden copper with a decent lasting white head. Nose is toffee, biscuit, grains, straw, fruit esters. Taste comprises toffee, hint of brown bread, light red berries, biscuit crumb. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a mellow bitter edge. Decent bitter.
