Bottle shared. Thanks TimE. Very old school nose with caramel and grassy notes dominating. Body is balanced but kind of simple. Mostly chewy caramel and some light hop character. Bitter finish. Simple.

Bottle. Gift from Terje. Pours hazy golden amber with small white head. Aroma is malt, orange, mandarin, caramel, sugar, bread, allspice and cardamom. Taste is light sweet, medium to very bitter, light to medium acidic and light umami. Body is light syrupy with sparking carbonation. Finish is long and mostly bitter with notes of malt, caramel, pepper, allspice, juniper, sweet licorice, bread and roasted malt (swartzbier style). Very interesting beer with good complexity.

This is not a brown ale, but OK. Thanks for the bottle Sam! Pours a golden yellow with no head to speak of. Aromas of orange and sweet mandarin with a hint of grain. Body is thin and a bit too watery, but still holds together alright. Sweet on the palate with a light bitter finish, but a little too sweet for my taste. Way better than I was expecting. --- Beer merged from original tick of Tokyo Blues Session Ale on 12 May 2015 at 19:21 - Score: 5

330 ml bottle with old-looking label design. Pours almost clear amber, small head looks nice. Aroma is sweetish, some toffee and modestly some hops too. Taste has a bit of malty caramel, good body, relatively weak hops making it also easily drinkable. Would be good to have this by the pint at brewery, right now OK but not amazing. Still, a good take on historical beer I guess.

Bottle 330ml "Tokyo Beer" 5.5 % (sampled in Kyoto)
Hazy amber color, small steady white head. Grainy, bready, hoppy aroma. Medium-bodied. Grainy, fruity flavor, some yeastyness. Mango, very light pine touch, sweetish. Really gives quite "bottle conditioned" feeling.
