On tap at Beer Keyaki. A bit of a cloudy gold pour with a thin filmy head. The aroma is spicy & nice , more weizen than saison but tasty. This rye saison was light & refreshing. Good.

Bottle from Asahiya. Served in a tulip glass. It pours a nice light honey gold with a filmy white head. The aroma’s appetizingly fruity floral hop goodness with a decent amount of malt backbone showing through. Medium to light bodied with the flavor being hoppy & lightly bitter with notes of citrus. A pretty good beer.

Hand pump at Keg Nagoya. Amber-orange, hazy, low lace. Nose of light caramel malt, English hops, grass, light tobacco and chocolate. Rich and malty flavor, light but smooth. Malty but not sweet, good caramel and light chocolate flavors. Very nice, and extremely authentic. The best low gravity English or Scottish style bitter I’ve had in Japan.

5% a Kölsch which a cool label. Served in a tulip at Asahiya. 550 yen A crystal clear light gold with a thin filmy head. A grainy sweet aroma. The flavor’s not bad, malty graham biscuit, mild fruitiness & a dry bitter finish. I don’t get much of a hop presence from this and suspect warm or in a few months it wouldn’t hold up well.

Rerate Nov. 2015. 7/2/7/3/14: Aging has helped, but this is not a great BW. Lots of tobacco now in the nose, caramel, raisins, prunes, treacle. Oxidized. Better. Tasted 3/22/14: 7/2/7/2/13. 750 ml bottle at Asahiya. Cloudy brown color. Leathery, oxidized nose, oranges and cherries, caramel, treacle. Very sweet and oxidized with a bitter finish. Very oil7 body. Ok, but not really there are far too expensive for the quality.

Tap at iBrew. Pretty, deep gold, almost amber, fine head. Malty nose, some caramel, bread. Quite like a marzen. Sweet and malty start, caramel, then gets clean and ry with a quite bitter finish. Well done beer, hoppy finish kicks it in.
