Description
Hardywood officially began its mission to brew with purpose in late 2011 as one of only two craft breweries in the city of Richmond. Our original brewhouse and taproom was a vacant warehouse discovered in a long-forgotten neighborhood known nearly a century prior as Richmond’s German Brewing District. Hardywood has been drawing new life to this forgotten area one draft pour at a time. We now operate a 20-barrel brewhouse and taproom in the original location, as well as a 60-barrel brewhouse and destination brewery in the West Creek area of Richmond, right on the border of Goochland County.
Today, Hardywood continues to develop and deliver on its mission with a sharp focus on brewing quality, sourcing local, environmental stewardship, community engagement, and giving back.

Bottle shared by the generous crowd at Salud, thanks! Dark brown, almost black, brown head. Aroma of burnt espresso, cocoa, prunes, figs. Taste is roasty cocoa and dark fruit. Not too boozy. Good stuff.

12oz bottle pours a neon grapefruit red with lots of sticky, bubbly, white head. Nose has a lot of soap, perfume, grass, some mild fruit, a little fruited iced tea, some tooth paste. Flavor is again kind of tooth paste-y, some grass, a little tropical fruit tums, some bubble hum, some perfume. Chalky finish. Lots of dragon fruit, that’s for sure.

Location: 750 ml bottle, 11/11/14
Aroma: The aroma is strong bourbon over some more subtle roasted coffee and chocolate
Appearance: It pours an almost black color with a small head and some light, spotty lace
Flavor: The flavor is sweeter, with chocolate, coffee, vanilla, bourbon, and some fruity notes
Palate: The body is medium-plus, it has a soft-to-average carbonation, and a clean finish
Overall Impression: I felt like the bourbon swetness and booziness overpowered everything else in the aroma, but the complexity comes through more in the flavor. Overall, this is solid and well-made. Definitely leans sweet.

Lots of barrel. Syrupy and a little too sweet for my liking. Brown and murky pour. Lots of booze and some light roast in here. Thanks to Radagast83 for this.

Bourbon, honey, and grapenuts aroma. Cloudy ochre, headless. Singular bourbon flavor, not super strong, with a beechwood finish. Medium body, but completely devoid of carbonation. Something’s not quite right about the conditioning of this beer.
