Description
In 1886 the Valkenburg branch named "De Valkenburgsche Leeuwenbrouwerij'' of the German ''Dittmann & Sauerländer Actiën Brauerei'' was founded. After WW I the Valkenburg brewery became independant as Bierbrouwerij de Leeuw. In 2000 the brewey was acquired by the Belgian brewer Haacht and in 2005 all brewing activites in Valkenburg came to an end. The Leeuw Pilsner and Oud Bruin were from now on brewed at the Belgian parent company. The beer is still available in bars and restaurants in South Limburg.

Bottle 0,30ltr: After shutdown the original brewery this is not mine favorite pilsener anymore. At first its gots that taste of water thats out of marl grounds in Dutch Southern-Limburg, with gots that soft hoppy taste. Now brewed by Haacht its got to sweet not the Leeuw worthy.

On tap at Cafe Frape Maastricht . Clear pale gold colour lasting white head. Slight yeast aroma. Clear clean cold. Very light. It's not awful but I wouldn't want it everyday. It's pretty dull. Slight lemon. Slight bitterness. Yep pretty ordinary.

Bottled. Hazy yellow colour with a small white head. Aroma is spices, some yeast, citrus and mild wood. Flavour is spices, some tart wooden notes, mild citrus, yeast and wheat to it. Nice citrusy and coriander finish and aftertaste.

*rating overgezet uit 2016* Het is een helder goudgeel bier met een medium witte schuimkraag. Het aroma is moutig, de smaak is moutig en wat grassig.
