Description
In 1886 the Valkenburg branch named "De Valkenburgsche Leeuwenbrouwerij'' of the German ''Dittmann & Sauerländer Actiën Brauerei'' was founded. After WW I the Valkenburg brewery became independant as Bierbrouwerij de Leeuw. In 2000 the brewey was acquired by the Belgian brewer Haacht and in 2005 all brewing activites in Valkenburg came to an end. The Leeuw Pilsner and Oud Bruin were from now on brewed at the Belgian parent company. The beer is still available in bars and restaurants in South Limburg.

At Boscafé 't Hijgend Hert, Vijlen. Shared with Anke.
Pours clear golden with a frothy, white head that leaves some lacing. The aroma contains malt, grain, hops, some wheat and cornflakes. It tastes light malty sweet and light grainy bitter; dry, grainy, crisp finish. Light body, watery texture, soft carbonation. A bit German-like, nothing special.

Tap at De Paas. Clear mahogany with big beige head. Massive sweet sugary tea. Like drinking a serious cup of very sweetened black tea. Some caramel, fudge, sweet berries, brown sugar. Quite sweet and soft spicy bitter. Medium bodied. Too sweet.
