Description
In 1886 the Valkenburg branch named "De Valkenburgsche Leeuwenbrouwerij'' of the German ''Dittmann & Sauerländer Actiën Brauerei'' was founded. After WW I the Valkenburg brewery became independant as Bierbrouwerij de Leeuw. In 2000 the brewey was acquired by the Belgian brewer Haacht and in 2005 all brewing activites in Valkenburg came to an end. The Leeuw Pilsner and Oud Bruin were from now on brewed at the Belgian parent company. The beer is still available in bars and restaurants in South Limburg.

Taster from a 1l bottle. Clear light brown colour, light brown head. Aroma of caramel and metal. Flavour is very sweet, caramel, light hops, a bit like sweet bread, little metal in the finish. Light bodied. Although I thorouhgly dislike the style, this one is, although very sweet, not nearly as sweet as some other Dutch Oud Bruins I’ve had and thus drinkable.

Can. A dark golden beer with an off-white head. The aroma is sweet malty with spicy hoppy notes. The flavor is sweet malty combined with notes of cardboard an light notes of hops, leading to a bitter finish. Thanks yespr for sharing.

Draught at De Bekeerde Suster as Leeuw Bockbier. Weak raisiny aroma. Almost black colour, clear red shine. Nice creamy brown head. The flavour is sweet, caramelly, winegummy, teaish, fruity. Has some iron, metal, vitamin pill. Nicely bready mouthfeel and finish. Strange but nice.
