Description
Northbound Brewery hails from the North West of Ireland, where David and Martina Rogers produce hand crafted premium beers.

Having spent almost a decade in Australia, the couple became passionate about craft beer and David learned about the magic of brewing. His knowledge has been recognised by the Institute of Brewing & Distilling, having been awarded the prestigious Master Brewer qualification.

Using Irish ingredients and the Master Brewer's knowledge, the brewery prides itself on crafting natural beers that are unpasteurized, unfiltered, with no artificial additives and bottled fresh on site.

Bottle from Callans, at Mum and Dads, 05/06/16. Lightly hazed golden orange with a decent off white cap. Nose is light citric peel, buttery notes, bready malts, hint of floral. Taste comprises light orange, straw, faint bread, toasted grain. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a light bitter splash. Medicore gold, a touch buttery and lacking any real oomph.

Bottle from Supervalu, Longford [180316]
Brown, clear, off white head, some lacing
Aroma of caramel, toasted malts, light nose
Taste of caramel malts, some toasty malts, bit nutty, soft bitter spicy hops, slightly earthy
Palate - Medium carb and body, quite smooth, light bitter. Finish of soft toasted bitter caramel malts, slightly dry, light spicy hops
Overall - Less malty than I expected for an Altbier and more bitter hoppy and toasted. Easy going. OK. Would suit cask much better
