Description
PROGRESSIVELY OLD SCHOOL
We make craft beer with a throwback approach. Through a combination of time-tested brewing/blending methods and modern practices, we create beer that is complex, thought-provoking, and above all delicious.
AN ALE PROJECT
We focus on truly slow beer – mainly Farmhouse Ales and Saisons in our wild brewery and lagers on our clean production side – with a passion for experimenting with other wild and traditional styles from Imperial Stouts to IPAs to Dutch Kuits.
ROOTED IN FAMILY
The name Birds Fly South is a nod to founders Lindsay and Shawn Johnson. For the last 22+ years, they lived the Coast Guard life, migrating across the country. Their family, their flock, was always looking to find their back to the south. Once they landed in Greenville, Shawn’s final station, they knew they had found home.

375ml bottle pours a murky grapefruit color with a ring of white head. Nose has a ton of raspberry, jammy, some sourness, vinegar. Flavor has plenty of raspberry, even jammy, then big acid and malt. Full bodied, high acid.

Passion fruit and grapefruit. Orange peel. Murky orange pour with pretty soapy head. A bit explosive on opening--may be a bit of hop creep here. Hop tang finish. I get zero guava, and can doesnt say guava.

Dark reddish brown color with mildly sweet syrupy aroma. Flavor is like a dark chocolate covered cherry with only mild bitterness and a rich, boozy finish.

2019 bottle. Pours a clear, bubbly, golden color, with a medium, frothy, white head. The aroma is bright peach, leather, dried orange, lemon zest, and green apple. Sweet and citrusy, with a mellow, tart flavor. Light, crisp, quite acidic, and sharp. Easy, balanced, and delicious.
