Description
Wold Top Brewery was founded in 2003 by arable farmers Tom and Gill Mellor. Based high on the Yorkshire Wolds where the hills roll down to the North Sea, ours is a family business that is run by the third and fourth generation Mellors and we pride ourselves on brewing superior quality beer from home grown barley and water that is gently filtered by the chalk of the Yorkshire Wolds and drawn from the farm's own borehole.

Bottle from House of Trembling Madness. Brewed with maize. A new style tick for me. Pours a pale gold, medium sized white head. Aroma of lemon and lime, grains, dust. Taste of sweet grainy malts, light citrus sharpness, flora, lacks a crisp bitter bite in this lager like beer. Light bodied but has a certain smoothness, easy drinking. Its ok.

500ml bottle from Morrisons, online. Dark brown/near black with a small beige head with little retention. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, somewhat nutty, hints of bittersweet citrus. Taste is malty with a moderate bitterness running throughout, roast and dark chocolate notes, there is a nice fruity tang in the finish although not sure I would describe it as marmalade. Medium bodied, light chewiness, nicely carbonated. Slightly rich but the fruitiness offsets this. Its a good porter.

330ml can. Pours a clear gold with a small, foamy, short lived, white head that laces. Faint aroma of grainy pale malt, red apple and floral hops. Sweet flavour of grainy pale malt, red apple, honey and grassy hops in a dry, mild bitter finish. Light body with a watery texture and average to soft carbonation. Crushable, but boring.

Cask @Treefolk's (Rome). Dorata limpida, schiuma bianca media, discretamente persistente. Al naso leggero zolfo che si attenua dopo poco (pur senza sparire), vaghi sentori citrici ed erbacei. In bocca va meglio, delicata, ben bilanciata, con amaro leggero. Corpo esile, carbonazione soft. Non perfetta.

Cask-conditioned at the Phoenix, York 19/9/2024. Amber in colour, with a slight, white, head. An easy drinking bitter with some marmalade fruitiness, leafy hops and solid maltiness, leading to a moderately bitter finish. A pleasant session bitter.

Cask @ The New Lancaster, Scarborough. Aroma of lemons, caramel and pine. Taste of biscuits, grass, caramel, pine, malts and lemons. Moderate to strong bitterness. Low carbonation. Very nice and helps to catch a break from all the spookiness outside.
