Description
Wold Top Brewery was founded in 2003 by arable farmers Tom and Gill Mellor. Based high on the Yorkshire Wolds where the hills roll down to the North Sea, ours is a family business that is run by the third and fourth generation Mellors and we pride ourselves on brewing superior quality beer from home grown barley and water that is gently filtered by the chalk of the Yorkshire Wolds and drawn from the farm's own borehole.

Cask-conditioned at the Phoenix, York 19/9/2024. Amber in colour, with a slight, white, head. An easy drinking bitter with some marmalade fruitiness, leafy hops and solid maltiness, leading to a moderately bitter finish. A pleasant session bitter.

Cask @ The New Lancaster, Scarborough. Aroma of lemons, caramel and pine. Taste of biscuits, grass, caramel, pine, malts and lemons. Moderate to strong bitterness. Low carbonation. Very nice and helps to catch a break from all the spookiness outside.

On tap. Pitch black body with a dense light brown head. Aroma of caramel, dark fruits, coffee, roasted malts and maybe a hint of cream. The taste is less roasty than the aroma, and shows more from the fruits. It also shows a hint of floral hops. Smooth, light medium bodied fruity porter. I like it.

Bottle at home. Pours a dark brown colour with a small beige head. Aroma of dark chocolate, coffee and roasted malt. Flavour of roasted malt, ash, coffee, heather and some dried fruit. Has a slick mouth feel, light to medium body, and a medium level bitternes. Roasted and decent. A little careful aroma though.
