Description
Independently-owned craft brewery providing North Carolina with quality beers since 1994.
Beginning in 1994 with a 7 barrel converted dairy system, we set and accomplished the goal of providing unique traditional ales & lagers available through OHB. Quickly we outgrew that system.
In 1997, we began the renovation of an 1880 Historic Landmark building, which now houses our brewing facilities, a 25-barrel Price Schonstrom brew house.

Sampled at Borefts Beer Festival 2019, day 1. Dark brown to black color, small beige head. Aroma is loaded with spices, as is the flavor. Bleh. Not my thing at all.

Sampled at Borefts Beer Festival 2019, day 1. Dark brown to black color, small beige head. Aroma is malts, dark malts, raisins. Lovely mixed together. There's more there but I can't find the words at the moment. Flavor is malts, dark malts, raisins again, a nice dark raisin bitterness, a little bit boozy but otherwise lovely. Slow sipper, intense, but good.

Bottle. Caramel, vanilla and bourbon in the aroma. Malty sweet, caramelly, soft roasty flavor with vanilla and bourbon. Full bodied. Good, but not great.

On tap at Brouwcaf de Molen, pours black with a medium brown head. Aroma brings out medium roasted malt, a little rubber, and some hoppy bitterness. Flavour is rich on the roasted malt upfront, with cocoa, wood, and a hint of rubber. Extremely thick, viscous palate. A bit brutal but it's pleasant.
