Description
Vleesmeester Brewery saw the light in 2010, when 3 friends –after years of frequenting beer festivals- decided to make their own beers. We bought ourselves a starter kit, and so it began. Some people in our surroundings wondered what we were doing in the kitchen and wanted to come take a look. Whilst crushing the malt they thought we were grinding it in a meat mill. So they started calling us “Vleesmeester” which means meatmaster in Dutch. From then on we called ourselves “Vleesmeester Brewery”, a lay-outer and friend of ours made a logo, and “Vleesmeester Brewery” was born. Fascinated by the less known beers out of the craft beer scene we started experimenting. Our preference went to hoppy beers and our firstborns were mostly IPA’s and Russian Imperial Stouts. One better than the other, by trial and error. Along the way, the people, who weren’t into hoppy beers at first, started to find appreciation for what we were doing. In 2014 the guys from the Antwerp based band “Your Highness” asked us to make a beer to serve at the release of their album, this beer became “Hoogheid”.

Draught Fluffy yellowish head with shards of lace over fully hazy ochre-amber beer. Very good muscatgrape nose, bit of ureum, fine lupuline aromas. Bit sweetish, spicy flavour, other grains -rye springs to mind. Retronasal again the grapes. Very slick, medium bodied at least, well carbonated. Generally speaking more than decent, but the strange ’other grains’ flavour makes is difficultly drinkable.

Even though it is still 2015, I already received the 2016-... beer from kev himself. thnx mate ! Brewed at Anders, who are - to me - known for quality brewing ( where hofbrouwerijke, well, sometimes is way off ) so good hopes for this one, since I already liked the ...-2016 version. Pours unclear amber, ok white head. Smell is bitter, dry, yet fruity. Taste is nicely fruity, very full, american-style hops, great malty background, over a perfect carbo and MF. Amazing ! This is in no way a let-down, and just like the name suggested ( highness ) this is amongst the royalty in the field of Belgian IPA’s !

Commissioned ’Belgian bitter blonde’ for Vleesmeester Brewery in Boechout. Creamy, dense, thickly lacing, egg-white head over an orangey ’old gold’ coloured beer, clear with lively fizz. Very floral aroma, chamomille, white pepper, dry leaves, honey, orange peel, gooseberry. Fruity taste, hints of red berries and dried apricot, smooth mouthfeel with a caramelly, lightly toasted maltiness, ending in an earthy, drying, floral, peppery hop bitterness, but gently so. Not a Belgian IPA or anything close to that, just a decent, tasty Belgian blonde with above average hoppiness to it.

Pours slightly unclear amber. OK white head. Smell is rich ambermalts, with its natural sweetness. A bit of hop aroma, but I wouldn’t call it hoppy. Taste is light, mildly metallic ( a known character to me in amberbeers ) and specific yeastprofile one wouldn’t really link to amber beers. overripe fruits, with a finishing touch of bitterness. I do get the idea of the name ( bitter flowers ) , even though I wouldn’t call it that bitter ( perhaps for a beginner-drinker who only drank pils ) but its definately got that floral aspects to it. Nice

Intensiv alkoholisch hopfiger Antrunk. Süßlich, im Mittelteil milder und dadurch runder werdend. Langer, hopfig spritziger Nachgeschmack. Gut. 12/10/11/11//11

3/III/15 - 33cl bottle from Willems (Grobbendonk) @ home - BB: no marking on the side of the label to indicate a date (2015-253) Thanks to Beerlover_Ben for picking this up for me!

Little cloudy orange beer, big creamy off-white head, little stable, adhesive. Aroma: sweet, brett notes, overripe fruits, fruit cocktail, yeasty. MF: lots of carbon, medium body. Taste: bit sourish, citrus, funky, definitely some brett, pretty bitter, soapy. Aftertaste: bit floral, overripe banana, sweet, overripe exotic fruits, bit funky, yeasty, sugary, unpleasant bitterness. Not an ipa at all. Just another hoppy triple with a touch of (unintentional?) brett.

330 ml. bottle @ home. Procured from Willems & Zoon. No BBF (strip not marked). Hazy orange, small off-white head. Orange hop nose, med. caramel /marmalade sweetness, floral, faint moldy yeast. Taste is bitter yeasty, fizzy, light mold, Vitamin C, high carbonation, touch caramel sweetness, mold sweetness, light toothpaste, body is weird, fizzy, touch chemical / washing powder bitter. Doesn’t feel entirely right to me. Maybe a small issue from this being brewed @ ’t Hofbrouwerijke. Can you switch to Gulden Spoor or Anders?
