One of several New Mexico beers I obtained a month or so back at Susan’s in Santa Fe, this 16 oz can of The Cobra checks several boxes. First it is an Imperial Stout registering 11% abv. Second, it is apparently brewed with Montmorency cherries and cacao nibs. And lastly it has a killer label, all shiny with great graphics. Let us hope the contents equal the buildup. My Cowtown snifter receives the pour, a fully dense black-brown liquid with a strong, persistent head of parchment brown foam. The nose gives up chocolate and dark bread, I really anticipated more. A drink delivers chocolate again, burnt toast, some roastiness, definitely some cherry influence but less than hoped for and malt. Not the impact I thought would be here , still a quite good imperial stout.

12 oz can from Total Wine. Clear, medium amber with huge fluffy head. Aroma features dusty malts. taste brings more malts, with a dry edge. Tobacco and leather. Not at all boozy.

From a 12 oz. can labeled "2018". Pours a clear mahogany with an ecru head. Aromas are citrus and toffee. Flavors are bitter and boozy caramel and pine. Seems like a surprisingly smooth finish until the bitter booziness finds its way back in and lingers, and lingers.
