Description
Golden City Brewery was founded in 1993 by two geologists, Charlie & Janine Sturdavant. They filled the old machine shop behind their historic Golden home with used dairy tanks and Charlie began brewing German-style ales. The tasting room was originally located in the sunroom of their house and provided Red Ale and Pale Ale to the local community in half-gallon growlers and kegs. Since that time, the operation has expanded at the same location (still their home). The carriage house has become the tasting room, the backyard is the beer garden. The brewery is still in the machine shop, but a second level was added inside. All the old “frankenbrew” equipment has been replaced with real beer fermenters and a slightly used gas-fired kettle. The brewery produces those now legendary Red & Pale Ales, in addition to a few other brews.

Cask gravity @ GBBF 2011. Pours a hazy amber brown color with a small off.-white head. Has a fruity malty caramel aroma with hoppy hints. Fruity malty caramel and chocolate flavor with hoppy hints. Has a fruity malty caramel finish.

Cask at GBBF 2011. Brown with a small off-white head. Malty toffee aroma with hints of choclolate and fruit. Dry and malty flavour with spice and pineapple notes.

Cask (gravity) @ GBBF 2011, Great British Beer Festival, Earls Court Exhibition Centre, London, England.Unclear medium to dark amber colour with a small, fizzy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, sour berry, wood, moderate hoppy. Flavor is moderate sweet, light acidic and light to moderate bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat. [20110803]

Bottled. A hazy amber beer with a thin beige head. The aroma has notes of over ripe fruits. The flavo ris sweet iwht notes of malt, caramel, alcohol, and over ripe fruits.

GBBF. Cask. Light haze on this brown beer. Residual off white head. Light palate, semi dry. Very mild darkish malts with a trace of smoke and roast. Well integrated fruit which are mildly tangy. Nicely joined up.

Cask @ GBBF, 2011. Pours unclear amber with a small creamy white head. Ashes and fruit. Vaguely tart fruity flavor. Ashes, earth and yeast. Messy!

From cask. Pours hazy dark brown with a small white head. Aroma is roasted dark malty and breadish. Sweet caramelish, toffee and slight breadish. Sweet, light fruity and slight fruity. Bitter and slight sweet finish.

Cask@GBBF2011. Deep amberty brown colour, small white head. Aroma is "beershits", some cooked vegetables, nuts and syrup. Flavour is very sweet malty with some nutty, herbal and grassy notes as well.

Cask at GBBF 2010. A hazy golden beer with no head. The aroma has notes of lemons and hops. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, hops, and lemons, leading to a dry finish.
