Description
Golden City Brewery was founded in 1993 by two geologists, Charlie & Janine Sturdavant. They filled the old machine shop behind their historic Golden home with used dairy tanks and Charlie began brewing German-style ales. The tasting room was originally located in the sunroom of their house and provided Red Ale and Pale Ale to the local community in half-gallon growlers and kegs. Since that time, the operation has expanded at the same location (still their home). The carriage house has become the tasting room, the backyard is the beer garden. The brewery is still in the machine shop, but a second level was added inside. All the old “frankenbrew” equipment has been replaced with real beer fermenters and a slightly used gas-fired kettle. The brewery produces those now legendary Red & Pale Ales, in addition to a few other brews.

30/10/2023. Can shared by Jeremy, cheers! Pours very dark brown with a lasting creamy frothy off-white to beige head. Aroma is piney, citrus, hoppy, tropical, roasted, light herb, soapy edge. Moderate sweetness and medium bitterness. Medium body, average carbonation. Good.

16oz can, a gift from a friend who's son is at university in Golden. Brought back to the UK to share. Minutemat and I did so on 18th October 2023. Black body, beige top. Piney hop aroma and taste, later comes a malty liquorice undertone. Decent.

16oz can shared with blackhaddock in his beer cave. Pitch black pour with a khaki collar atop. Roast and pine coming through on the nose. Good pineyness to taste with some distant liquorice. Excellent BIPA.

16oz can from a friend, drank in Laguna Hills on 14th July 2023. Deep brown, almost black bodied, beige head. Malty and sweet and even though it is 8.6% the body feel was 'thin' and un-Doppelbock like in my opinion and where is the 'ator' at the end of it's name?

16oz can from a friend, drank in Laguna Hills on 14th July 2023. Hazy pink body, weak head. Sourdough and Pink Guava? Weird aroma and taste combination, but that's what I got! Struggled to finish it.
