Cask at the Back of Beyond (JDW), Reading. Reddish amber with a deep, dense cream head; sweet aroma of stewed plums and apple; really jammy fruit flavour, well-balanced with an intense bitterness, leaving a slightly peppery finish. Rather similar to last month’s Market Collapse - but nonetheless the best Reb I’ve tried for a while.

Cask gravity at 1st K&ES Railway BF 2009. More gold, than blond, lasting beige head. Had a sip of someone’s the previous event and the hop on the finish really surprised me. Today, it’s hoppy, bit of butter and then this stinging gingerish hop on the finish. Slightly yeasty. Not always a fan of Rebellion beers, but I found this very drinkable, not overly showy, but surprisingly good.

Cask at the Monks Retreat (JDW), Reading. Copper with a dense cream head; aroma of purple fruit - plum and damson; smooth and sweet with purple fruit flavours and chewy malts; deep, satisfying, bitterness to finish. Rather heavy for a summer ale, but very drinkable.
