Cask handpull at The Market Porter, London. Attractive chestnut colour, lasting mid beige head. It’s an ok bitter. Touch of butter on aroma. Fine, if a touch boring.

Cask at Wenlock Arms, London, 21 Nov 2008. Dark brown colour with brief, beige head. Malty, nutty nose with notes of chocolate, raisins and prunes. Malty, nutty taste with chocolate, dried fruit, dark bread and a fairly moderate bitterness in the finish. Medium body, balanced sweetness throughout. Nice one. In short: nuts, chocolate and dried fruit.

[Cask handpull at Back of Beyond, Reading] 4.7% on cask. Reddish brown with a moderate white head. Tastes of Blackcurrant, wood and earth. Like most Rebellion beers I’ve tried it’s a decent pint that slips down easily, but never threatens to become memorable in any way.

[Cask handpull at the Royal Standard of England, Beaconsfield] Ruby black with a moderate beige head. Chocolate, leather and a hint of smoke; quite dry on the palatte. Easy drinking. Not bad, but flavours are a little muted for a mild; there are much better examples of the style around. c9
