Description
Up Front Brewing was founded in 2015 with the aim of sharing our love of exceptional beers and great artwork, with a wider audience.
Here at Up Front we have no loans, no investors, and no kickstarter funding - everything is paid for up front. We brew by renting space in other people’s breweries, with each batch paid for as it’s brewed.
We have very little in the way of overheads, which allows us to spend a considerable amount of time and effort into researching and experimenting with new yeast, bacteria, ingredients, and brewing techniques from around the world. We brew mostly out of 71 Brewing in Dundee, but also use other breweries as and when required.
Up Front has used both Drygate and Alechemy as a base.

12oz can pours a murky, dark orange with lots of frothy, sticky, slightly off white head. Nose has orange, mild grapefruit, a little tomato, floral, a little grist. Flavor has pine needles, orange peel, mild biscuit, a little orange jam, some light soap. Finishes dry, lightly bitter. Very easy drinker.

Sampled from can thanks to Scopey. Dark brown color with a slight red glare coming through, average sized beige head. Smell and taste malts, dark malts, firm roast and coffee with a malt bitter finish. Decent body, medium carbonation. Decent beer.

Can shared with the RB crew. It pours black with a thick tan head. The aroma is rich roast, earthy, big coffee character, cacao, salted liquorice and umami. The taste is bitter, rich roasted malt, charred wood, burnt pine, cacao nibs, ashy, umami, coffee grounds and peppery spice with a dry, rich roasted finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Pretty punchy on the bitterness.

Can at home. It pours hazy orange - amber with a thick, foamy white head. The aroma is fresh, juicy, tropical fruits, mango, nectarine, bready, pepper and grassy dankness. The taste is bitter, rich, juicy, pine needles, peppery spice, tropical fruits, marmalade and grassy dankness with a dry finish. Medium body and moderate, foamy carbonation. Fresh and juicy. A very encouraging start from these guys!

Can from The Beerhive. Black body with a medium beige head. Good lacing. Aroma of Twiglet ash, coffee grounds and burnt toast. Flavour of charred wood, roasted malt and a minty finish. Medium body with a smooth mouthfeel. Soft fizz. A solid Stout - full flavoured and easy drinking. Very enjoyable.

Can from The Beerhive. Clear amber body with a thin white head. Steady carbonation. Patchy lacing. Aroma of pine, rust, pineapple yoghurt, nettles and marmalade. Flavour of blood orange (which I always seem to associate with Chinook - not sure if it’s used or not), tomato juice and a hint of nail varnish. Medium body with an oily mouthfeel. Quite hot for 6.0% ABV. I was expecting better based on previous reviews. One to revisit perhaps.
