Description
WHEN YOU SIT DOWN WITH A BEER, YOU’RE AFTER SOMETHING. Maybe it’s nuanced layers of flavor, the siren call of a favorite hop, or to test your skill identifying stone fruit tasting notes. Maybe you’re chasing the new or craving the familiar, perhaps you just want to kick back for a drink with friends—and order another of the same. At Bearded Iris, our beers meet you where you are and deliver the experience you seek, whatever it might be, because that’s what we believe makes beer worth drinking. CULTIVATE VARIETY DRIVES US AT BIBCO. (WE’RE NOT KIDDING.) With a menu that skews heavily toward IPAs, DIPAs, and pales, it can appear that we don’t, in fact, cultivate much “variety.” But here’s the thing: we’re not looking to bombard you with a checklist of styles. Instead, we know that each hop varietal and every intentionally selected ingredient contains a multitude of possibilities that can be deliberately unlocked and unleashed, then honed and hemmed in tightly, to construct a pint that’s unapologetically itself, memorably composed, and fun to drink. Every time. Regardless of style. To us, that’s the variety worth cultivating. And that’s what we bring to your table.

16oz can pours a muddy orange with some soapy, white head. Nice nose, passion fruit, kumquat, orange, perfume, sweet herbs. Flavors are very nice, very forward with kumquat and passion fruit, soap, pine, some grass, scapes. Finishes basically full bodied and bitter. Nice.

16oz can pours a muddy gold with some thin white head. Nose is very nice and what you expect, malt, oats, green vanilla, melon, guava. While the flavor is nice with melon, guava and a little creamcicle, there is a distracting green note, vegetal. Finishes creamy. Overall nice, but not transcendent.

Tall can. Cloudy yellow with a white meringue head. Pine and citrus aroma. The flavor has juicy grapefruit, about as bitter as drinking the juice. Light for a IIPA but at least it isn't a cloying mess.

Draft at the source. Pours a hazy gold with a finger of creamy foam that lingers. Huge hop driven nose that just goes on and on. Lots of pineapple, passion fruit and white grapefruit as it warms. Prickly bitterness on the palate, young pineapple, passion fruit skin and grapefruit pith. Nicely balanced between juice and pith. Some hopburn lingers, with kiwi acidity.

Tasty beer, very much a Nelson Sauvin monster, full of passion fruit, white wine, berry, and earth notes. Malts add a biscuit-laden base and a mild toasted graininess to the proceedings, while the finish grows somewhat dry and citric with hints of pine and flowers. Pours an uber-hazed straw gold with a stubborn white head and good lacing. Nose is an explosion of passion fruit, earth, and vinous fruitiness. Pillowy texture is set back by a noticeable alcohol kick. Still, a nice pint.

Can from the source. Pours a juicy, opaque gold with a finger of creamy white foam that lingers. Dank nose with an explosion of hops; pineapple, white grapefruit, tangerine, iyokan. Good hopburn on the palate, crushed pineapple. Pithy bitterness on the finish to balance out the fruit forward nose. Bearded Iris has really been dialing it in lately. Great stuff.

Crowler from the source. Pours a deep brown with red highlights with almost no head. Big chocolate fudge brownie notes all over the nose, faint booze and light vanilla cream notes. As it warms a little raisin as well. Lowish carbonation, creamy and fudge-like with a vanilla cream hit mid-palate. Creamy and fudge-like, but the body is a bit thin and a tad undercarbonated. Alcohol is hidden fairly well on the palate, light peppery chocolate finish that lingers. Nice stab at a different style for Bearded Iris.

Multiple cans from February 2018. Pungent citrus, passion fruit and pineapple. Super pungent and dank on the nose. Body is there, good mouthfeel. Medium to low bitterness, prickly carbonation, but not overly so. An absolute laser beam on this batch. Almost a month old and still drinking like a champ. 12-31-2017 rating: Draft at the source. Pours a hazy gold with a finger of creamy foam that lingers. Citra bomb, passion fruit, citrus, pineapple aromas. Slight citrus burn on the palate. Body is pillowy with a super creamy textures. Finish has some kiwi-like tartness and light citrus zest. Nice stuff.
