About
WHEN YOU SIT DOWN WITH A BEER, YOU’RE AFTER SOMETHING. Maybe it’s nuanced layers of flavor, the siren call of a favorite hop, or to test your skill identifying stone fruit tasting notes. Maybe you’re chasing the new or craving the familiar, perhaps you just want to kick back for a drink with friends—and order another of the same. At Bearded Iris, our beers meet you where you are and deliver the experience you seek, whatever it might be, because that’s what we believe makes beer worth drinking. CULTIVATE VARIETY DRIVES US AT BIBCO. (WE’RE NOT KIDDING.) With a menu that skews heavily toward IPAs, DIPAs, and pales, it can appear that we don’t, in fact, cultivate much “variety.” But here’s the thing: we’re not looking to bombard you with a checklist of styles. Instead, we know that each hop varietal and every intentionally selected ingredient contains a multitude of possibilities that can be deliberately unlocked and unleashed, then honed and hemmed in tightly, to construct a pint that’s unapologetically itself, memorably composed, and fun to drink. Every time. Regardless of style. To us, that’s the variety worth cultivating. And that’s what we bring to your table.

Can at home from Trembling Madness, 1st May 2021. Pours clean and golden, what the feck?? I loved the original when I had this in Nashville 4 years ago, one of the first and fantastic hazy IPAs I quaffed, so I’m surprised at this. Aroma is pine and citrus. Taste is mandarin and citrus, light pine and floral, weird this is a double of the original and it’s no where near, still a reasonable beer, but not what I expected.

473ml can Sophie's Beer Store. Pours gold with a light mist, expected it to be hazier, nice white froth. Juicy sweet, light and smooth, nicely balanced medium to light bodied for the style. Good drinkability. Nice.

Tap at Sir James Pub. Not really that hazy at all, almost looks filtered actually, faint chill haze? Nice hop depth, not as much Motueka tone as I had hoped, but still there. Green strawberry, lime, mango peach..a lot going on. Good.

So freakin’ sweet. Chocolate syrup, caramel, vanilla, and dark fruits with a saccharine bitterness on the finish. Not my type of beer in the slightest.

Another tasty giant IPA from BI. Big notes of white grape, peach, papaya, candied orange zest, melon, and grapefruit pith, with undertones of wood shavings, grain, and a little licorice-tinged sweetness. Finishes with a dose of minerals and booze. Good pint.

Pours a hazy golden orange with a white head. Aromas of ripe fruits, citrus, and tropical notes, with a touch of stone fruit. The flavor is moderately bitter with some sweetness, accompanied by notes of mango, pine, and citrus. The texture offers a fair body and lively fizz.
