Description
Back in 2001 I walked into Highgate brewery hoping for a delivery job, little did I know that 13 years later (2014) I would be running and owning my very own micro brewery. After the closure of Highgate and completing 8 years in the trade, successfully learning the vital skills needed I quickly found another job, this time in a micro brewery called Blue bear brewery.

As I was the only brewer onsite I was left responsible for the day to day brewing, cleaning and packaging of the brewery which I gained massive experience for later on in my career. I later left Blue bear to go and work with an old friend at the Worcestershire brewing company. Together myself and the head brewer worked on new recipes and new ideas and successfully built up a good reputation for our ales. This was the time when I came truly passionate about real traditional ales and made the first steps into building my own brewery.

Cask at Shrewsbury Arms, Stafford (not on RB yet) Pours an extremely dark reddish brown with a generous cream head. A nice aroma of vanilla with hints of woodsmoke. Texture is creamy, with taste of dark fruits, liquorice and a little milky coffee. The finish is fruity, but in a gentle way. Nice enough, but doesnโ€™t really have much โ€œstoutโ€ characteristic.

Hand-pulled cask pint at The Crown Inn, Oakengates Shropshire on 18th Oct 2019. Dark brown brew with plenty going on. Lasting beige head that gave some heavy lacing. Malty molasses rule the nose and flavours, some decent bitterness from the hop content also. Liked it.

Quite good.

Bottle from Tanners in Bridgnorth. Poured a crystal clear light golden colour with a mostly lasting frothy white head and a few bubbles. The aroma is light toffee malt, skunky, light barnyard, citrus fruit, woody hop. The flavour is moderate bitter with a crisp, malt, fresh fruity, light pepper spice, dry woody hop bitter palate. Medium bodied white average to soft carbonation.

Handpull cask at the Salmon, Leicester. It's a comely little beer: straw-coloured and clear with a big and slightly fluffy white head. The smell brings up a lot of things: soap, lemon zest, grapefruit, maybe a touch of wet dog. My nose gets used to it and decides that it's actually quite pleasant. Bittersweet taste with pithy bitter hops, and a slight atringency toward the finish. More grapefruit and a littlr soap in the aftertaste. The light body is nicely lifted by natural carbonation as this beer is in perfect condition. Verdict: unlikely to go down in hiatory as one of the great APAs but it's certainly a pleasant cask sessioner.
