Description
We are Oedipus Brewing. Founded by four friends in Amsterdam, we’re always ready to go where our taste buds take us. Oedipus is about fun, energy and doing things differently. We create fantastical beers to reveal to the world that beer is a magical beverage: tasty, exciting and for everyone. Welcome to our universe 🖖🏽

Since mid 2019 has Heineken a minority interest in the brewery. On June 21, 2023, it was announced that Heineken had acquired all shares of the brewery and thus became full owner of the brewery. The takeover coincides with the move of Oedipus.

The brewery and taproom at Gedempt Hamerkanaal 85 were closed on April 14, 2024. The brewery and taproom were moved to Schaafstraat 19, 300 meters further, where the Oedipus Craft Space will open in the early summer of 2024.

On Tap @ Beer Temple. Barman (Sander = one of the Oedipus brewers) told me the pumpkin was spiced and then roasted in the oven before added to the mash. Deep dark color, almost black. Beige, uneven head with quite some retention. Aroma’s: sweet, roasted, somewhat smoked/leather, hints of pumpkin and some spices. Flavor is medium sweet, roasted. Long finish but no new taste, still roasted though. Pretty nice.

Sampled from bottle thanks to brewer Sander. Slightly unclear dark orange color, small white lacing. Smell malts, herbs & spices, slightly grassy and hay. Taste malts, light to medium herbs & spices, some pepper, some sweetness, lightly sorachi hops, slightly some bitterness in the finish and some yeast. Medium carbonation, medium body. Not my kind of beer, too much spicyness.

Cask @ In De Wildeman. Color is blonde, but very cloudy, muddy. Soapy head. Aroma’s: Slightly malty sweet, fresh hops, retronasal it’s hops, resinous, earthy, grassy, grainy, toasted. Flavor is bitter, grainy. Body is light, carbonation is very soft. Finishes toasted and bitter. Nice one!

Cask @ In De Wildeman (Dutch cask beer days). Very muddy brown color. No head. Aroma’s: herbs & spices, notably cardamom and cinnamon, a bit earthy, retronasal the pumpkin becomes noticeable, with some sweetness & fruit. Flavor is (surprisingly enough) just slightly sweet, a bit roasted, herbal. Light bodied. Finishes herbal and earthy bitter.

Draught @ Beer Temple. First batch made by this brewery, so far only one batch made, but there are plans for a lot more according to the brewers. Cloudy yellow / orange color, thick creamy white head that linguers for quite awhile. Smell a lot of hops, very fruity, lightly pine. Taste is amazingly good: hops, pine, slightly resin, very nicely bitter and superd balance. Mouthfeel is very good as well, medium carbo, medium to full body. Superb and amazing for a first brew. Credits to the brewers!
