Description
We are Oedipus Brewing. Founded by four friends in Amsterdam, we’re always ready to go where our taste buds take us. Oedipus is about fun, energy and doing things differently. We create fantastical beers to reveal to the world that beer is a magical beverage: tasty, exciting and for everyone. Welcome to our universe 🖖🏽
Since mid 2019 has Heineken a minority interest in the brewery. On June 21, 2023, it was announced that Heineken had acquired all shares of the brewery and thus became full owner of the brewery. The takeover coincides with the move of Oedipus.
The brewery and taproom at Gedempt Hamerkanaal 85 were closed on April 14, 2024. The brewery and taproom were moved to Schaafstraat 19, 300 meters further, where the Oedipus Craft Space will open in the early summer of 2024.

33 cl bottle (bought @ Food Film Festival from the Oedipus crew). Red copper color, hazy. Small off-white head. Aroma’s of pine & resin, sour/tropical fruit, with malty notes retronasal. Flavor is rather bitter, a bit acidic, with a light malty touch. Warming alcohol feel. Medium bodied. Long bitter finish. Pretty neat.

33cl Bottle, thanks Manon! Muddy orange-amber colour, thin white head. Aroma of loads of spices, cardamon, lemongrass, rosemary, ginger, nutty yeast. Flavour is sweet, spicy, lots of cardamon and lemongrass, light malty, hint of dead yeast/plastic, mint-like sensation from all spices, light bitter finish, a touch of (chili) heat, yeast. Light to medium-bodied. I usually dig spicy beers, but this is a bit over the top imo.

On tap at Arendsnest. Slightly hazy amber orange colour, white head. Aroma of grass, weed, cabbage, strong hops, light caramel. Flavour is just light malty, light caramel, mostly bitter hops, with light citrus, and mainly cabbage and weed, firm bitter finish with a little sugar. Medium-bodied. Simple and not really to my taste.

Last glass from tap at Beer Temple, thanks for letting me have this Sander! ABV 7% according to the bottle label he showed me. Hazy amber-brown colour, off-white head. Aroma of soft spices, mainly lemongrass, coreander, nice soft sweet malts, caramel. Flavour is again very smooth, soft spicy but evermore so, lemongrass, citrus, malty, soft caramel, light spicy bitter finish. Medium-bodied at best. Very elegant beer imo.

On tap @ Beer Temple (still the first batch brewed @ De Molen). Barman/Oedipus brewer Sander told me it was brewed with Sorachi Ace hops, lemongrass, szechuan pepper and other spices. Murky red-brown color. Uneven off-white head. Aroma’s: spices and herbs, anise, caramel, lightly acidic, medium bitter. Flavor is herbal spicy, lightly acidic, medium bitter. Body is medium. Finishes herbal spicy, dry, bitter. Some moderation on the spice side would be good.
