330ml bottle, lot #038, served at a decent drinking temperature at Kaptein Larsen in Bodø. A coal black body under a stable, patchy layer leaving spotty lacing behind. Rich and inviting smell of roasted black malts, with liquorice upfront and leafy hops beneath. Wonderful taste of pine needles mixed with liquorice, ash, and chocolate. Lingering malt bitterness to the finish. Soft in the mouth. Full boded, still rather easy to drink. Excellent version of the style and the best from the brewery so far (relaxing with Kjell and Steven after talking about witches at Stormen Library, 10.06.2015).

330ml bottle, lot #040, at Kaptein Larsen in Bodø. Slowly fading tan-coloured head leaving dotted spots on the glass. Jet black body. Black malts on the nose, slightly smoked, and added by earth and leaves. Creamy brown and black malty flavours joined by raisin, dough, ash, and pine leading to a dark bitter ending, nicely roasted. Rounded mouth feel. Fine drinkability. A comprehensive, well-made stout (10.06.2015).

Bottle at home. Is deep nut brown color, and is fairly clear. Slightly beige foam formed on top. Its aroma is emerging as a blend of roasted and sweet malt, and has many layers where one attending hazelnuts, chocolate truffles, rye bread, soy sauce, brown sugar and raisins. The taste is just as exciting with more roasted and dried fruit, and in the background is a nice malt sweetness. Mouth feel is smooth and silky, and the bitterness is low. The beer surprises me a little, and I am fascinated by how complex it manages to appear to be a relatively light beer in English traditional style. The balance of the beer between roastedness and sweetness comes through aroma and taste.

Bottle at home. Is black as night with a great, creamy, light beige foam. Aroma with roasted tones with hints of coffee, ash and dark chocolate. In the aroma I also get pine needles in the background. The taste is even more roasted with more ash and coffee beans. In addition there is a distinct touch of chocolate truffles that gives a nice and sweet touch. Mouth feel is silky, and the bitterness is light. This is a real solid stout with good, roasted tones. The beer shows balance all the way, and is also surprisingly easy to drink.

Bottle at home. The beer has a deep reddish brown to black color, and topped with creamy light brown foam. Its aroma is clearly roasted with touches of coffee beans, good chocolate, brownies, and a little ash. In the background theres some grapefruit-like tones. Slightly diacetyl recognized. The taste starts first fruity before more roasted malt, ash and dark chocolate rolls in. Towards the end I meet fruitiness again, and something peppery (chili?). Body is at a medium level, and the mouthfeel is soft and smooth. The bitterness is kept nicely in balance. This is a nice mix between a stout and IPA, and the two styles competes all the way.

33cl bottle at Kulturhuset i Oslo. Pours black with a beige head. Aroma of roasted malt, hints of licorice, dark fruits, dark chocolate and hints of herbs. Medium sweet with nice roasty flavours and slightly dry and somewhat bitter finish. Pleasant stout!
